Comedian Kwak Beom revealed the financial hardships he faced during his unknown years.
Recently, a video titled "Kwak Beom starts again Tlqkf" was posted on the YouTube channel "Cheonsang Woman Kim Ji-yoo."
In the released video, Kwak Beom is shown spending a "healing day" with Kim Ji-yoo, and Kim Ji-yoo asked, "Oppa, what were you like when you were unknown? Was it very hard?"
To this, Kwak Beom mentioned, "I recently watched a short, and there was a part where I said that when I did 'Gag Concert' my appearance fee was in the 50s. But the comments there were really bad. They said, 'If that's per week, you made a lot,'"
He lamented, "But at that time I had a family of four. When I was edited out (on broadcasts), it would drop to around 1 million won a month. But they don't know that. They would say, 'Don't worry about entertainers. He made a lot.' That doesn't bother me in other places, but that one stung. Because there were times I struggled," he complained.
He continued, "There was a time when the four of us had not a single won left in our balance. When we really had nothing, my wife sold the bags she bought while working to (make a living). I also feel sorry to my daughters; we sold their first-year birthday rings because we had no money. Because of that feeling of guilt, I try to treat them better," he said, drawing attention.
Meanwhile, Kwak Beom recently appeared on MBC's "Radio Star" and surprised everyone by revealing that he is a regular on as many as 12 web variety shows.
