Actor Lee Kyung-jin recalled the painful past of having breast cancer and cried.
On the 25th, a video titled "[Following 경진 unnie's daily routine who even beat cancer!!] Wait.. is she really 70?! "She has the body of someone in their 20s," unnie Kyung-jin's claim! This video proves it. #cancerSurvivor" was uploaded to the "Real Actresses" channel.
That day, Lee Kyung-jin visited the gym she attends with Kim Young-ran and Ahn So-young. She easily performed strength exercises on the spot, and the trainer said, "She is very healthy. She does 200 squats at a time," commenting on her healthy condition.
Lee Kyung-jin, who goes to the gym three times a week, said, "If you stop, you'll only regress, so maintaining this seems important. For anything," and added, "I want cancer patients to see this and know they can live this healthy. I hit rock bottom and then felt something that made my mindset special. It's not something someone can teach you; it's what you experience yourself," saying that her battle with cancer led her to pay more attention to her health.
Afterward, the three moved to Lee Kyung-jin's home and had dinner together. During that time, Ahn So-young said, "She told me she had cancer and was in pain, so that really weighed on my mind. Whether it was 10 years ago or more recent, it hurt my heart," mentioning and expressing sorrow about Lee Kyung-jin's breast cancer battle.
Lee Kyung-jin said, "When I was struggling, even siblings left me when I was hospitalized," and Ahn So-young said, "But when people are sick, they miss others the most." Moreover, at that time Lee Kyung-jin had already lost her mother and eldest sister. She said, "After holding my sister's and mother's funerals over the course of a year, I was diagnosed with cancer. I even renovated this house. It took two to three months to fix this house. Then I got cancer. I was so resentful that I told myself I couldn't die. If only because I fixed this house," expressing her will to live.
She said, "I fought the illness almost by myself. I was almost nothing but bones. I couldn't absorb food and couldn't sleep, so I couldn't gain weight. Once I was boiling water and didn't even realize the kettle was burning," and continued, "Actually, I was doing a weekend drama with Ko Doo-shim, and I was told at another hospital that they would perform a complete mastectomy. I received the cancer diagnosis. That was devastating. But Doo-shim unnie was an ambassador for Seoul National University Hospital (Bundang), so she immediately connected me by phone from Jeju, and when that doctor saw me he said, 'You don't need to remove it all.' I had been praying all week during late-night vigils, saying, 'If you're going to remove it, take me with you.' When they said they wouldn't remove it all, I finally fell asleep," she recalled her feelings at the time.
Then Ahn So-young said, "Look, even as she talks about it, tears are welling up in her eyes. Imagine how painful and hard that recollection must have been," expressing sorrow, and Lee Kyung-jin said, "It was so desperate. Removing one side of your chest feels exactly like removing one arm. But men don't think that way. One doctor said, 'My sister had her whole breast removed and she's fine.' I hated that person so much. I don't see that doctor. I hate him so much. I don't know. Whether there's a man or not, having that removed feels like cutting off an arm. When someone close to me had that removed, I remembered the prayers I had. So when I meet such patients, I hold them," she cried.
She continued, "When my siblings left back then, Ko Doo-shim unnie introduced and connected me to the hospital doctor and kept saying on the phone, 'Kyung-jin, don't cry when you're alone.' I talked to that unnie constantly. She came when I was hospitalized, and always called me when it was time to eat. I feel sorry that I haven't been able to call recently. She took great care of me then. Doo-shim unnie and Chang-sook unnie took care of me when I was at death's door. Even now, the fact that I exercise hard and eat well and take care of myself alone—if I didn't, my immunity would drop. Thinking of that time makes me want to live harder," she said. Then Ahn So-young comforted her, saying, "You came back well. So please keep living hard until 90," adding to the emotional moment.
