Director Yeon Sang-ho's new film "The Swarm" (provided/distributed by: SHOWBOX│produced by: Wowpoint (WOWPOINT), Smilegate│co-produced by: Midnight Studio│director: Yeon Sang-ho) has released a character still of Kwon Se-jung, played by Jun Ji-hyun.
Set inside a building sealed off by an unidentified infectious outbreak, the film "The Swarm," which depicts the desperate fight of isolated survivors against infected beings that evolve into unpredictable forms, has released a character still of Kwon Se-jung, a biotechnologist and the leader of the survivors.
From The Thieves, where she stood out with sly charm and a unique ability to inhabit a character; to Berlin, where she displayed densely textured acting by subtly conveying emotion; to Assassination, where skilled action completed the narrative of a female independence fighter; to My Love from the Star and The Legend of the Blue Sea, where her passionate performances that crossed fantasy and romance created a phenomenon; and to Kingdom: Ashin of the North, where condensed emotion and intense eyes carried the story and revealed a new face—Jun Ji-hyun, who has delivered irreplaceable performances across genres, is expected to captivate audiences once again with The Swarm.
The released stills capture Kwon Se-jung in various situations, from moving forward with a resolute expression to freezing in shock while watching the infected closely, and to a breathless confrontation with the infected. Kwon Se-jung is a character who, unable to stand injustice, was not reappointed as a professor and, at her ex-husband Han Gyu-seong (Go Soo)'s proposal to introduce a new job, came to the Dunguri Building where a conference was being held and became trapped. As a biotechnologist, she analyzes the behavior and evolution patterns of the unidentified infected and strives to lead the survivors and escape by any means.
Asked why she chose The Swarm as her return to the screen 11 years after Assassination, Jun Ji-hyun answered, "I was originally a true fan of director Yeon Sang-ho, and above all, the lean script of The Swarm appealed to me greatly." Director Yeon Sang-ho also said of Jun Ji-hyun, "Her instantaneous immersion was tremendous, and I thought, as expected, that she is a veteran actress," raising expectations for The Swarm, born from the first meeting between director Yeon Sang-ho and Jun Ji-hyun.
Scheduled for release in theaters in May.
