With developments surging like a storm, In Your Radiant Season is raising tension as one by one the truths it had concealed are brought to light.
MBC's Friday-Saturday drama In Your Radiant Season (planned by Namgung Seong-woo, written by Jo Seong-hee, directed by Jeong Sang-hee and Kim Young-jae) begins with the Boston explosion seven years ago and follows the fateful reunion of Sun Woo-chan (Chae Jong Hyeop) and Song Ha-ran (Lee Sung-kyoung), the love line that progressed from "neighborhood friends" to lovers, and Sun Woo-chan's "memory gap" and the appearance of Cha Su-jin (Lee Joo-yeon), captivating viewers with developments that are unpredictable even a moment ahead. With only three episodes left until the finale, we examined the major incidents driving the latter half of In Your Radiant Season.
◆ memory gaps, and the truth from seven years ago revealed
After reuniting with Song Ha-ran, Sun Woo-chan began to regain bits of his memories from the Boston incident seven years ago as he experienced tinnitus and trigger responses. In particular, the sound of Cha Su-jin's bracelet cracked the sealed memories, deepening his confusion.
Seven years ago, when Kang Hyuk-chan (Kwon Do Hyoung) had grown distant from Song Ha-ran, Sun Woo-chan began replying to messages on his behalf at Kang's request. While Kang Hyuk-chan was away traveling with Cha Su-jin, Sun Woo-chan used the swapped laptop to continue chatting with Song Ha-ran for about a month. Pretending to be Kang Hyuk-chan, he regained a sense of purpose through his connection with Song Ha-ran, and Song Ha-ran, believing at the time that she was talking to her boyfriend, increasingly poured her heart into him.
Later, the memory he had of confessing this to Kang Hyuk-chan after the trip was also revealed through the "one-inch memory," and the relationship among the three entered a new phase. On top of the bracelet, the sound of a lighter acted as another trigger, and Sun Woo-chan's condition continued to worsen.
In particular, it was revealed that shrapnel from the accident remained in his head, raising questions about a direct link between the Boston explosion and Sun Woo-chan. What the truth of that day really is will be revealed in earnest in episodes 10 and 11.
◆ Chae Jong Hyeop, Kwon Do Hyoung and Lee Joo-yeon, the reality of the hidden relationships
The relationship between Kang Hyuk-chan and Cha Su-jin also emerged as a new variable. Kang Hyuk-chan developed into a couple with Song Ha-ran, who had been a junior to his older sister Kang Eun-chan (Han Jae-yi), but grew increasingly distant due to studying abroad in Boston and a busy life in Seoul. Time differences and gaps in circumstances reduced communication, and he was hospitalized without even telling her about his nerve surgery.
The person he met there was Cha Su-jin. A medical student in Boston, Cha Su-jin returned to Korea as a trainee doctor after seven years and emerged as a key figure in the case. Later, Sun Woo-chan reunited with her, following the sound of the bracelet that he heard again in the hospital.
Sun Woo-chan went to Cha Su-jin to ask about his memories from the day of the accident, but she drew a line, saying she was extremely wary of him and "it was hurtful to her too." The hidden past between the two, and the reason she was in the same hospital room as Kang Hyuk-chan, remain shrouded in mystery.
Later, Cha Su-jin accidentally encountered Song Ha-ran, resulting in a fateful three-way confrontation. In particular, Cha Su-jin realized that Song Ha-ran had been Kang Hyuk-chan's ex after seeing the fountain pen Song Ha-ran dropped and Sun Woo-chan calling her name. With the reality of all the relationships revealed, attention is focused on what truth Sun Woo-chan and Song Ha-ran will face. As Pandora's box slowly opens, interest is growing in how the tangled thread of truth will be unraveled.
