Actor Park Jae-hyun spoke about the controversy over his parents-in-law's breakfast, which became a reason for the divorce.

His ex-wife Han Hye-joo recalled, "I found out when I was 30 weeks pregnant, so from around that time the last surgery was finished when the child was 7 years old. It must have been about a week before Seowon's surgery. It was a really major operation. It was a surgery that took all day. The parents-in-law said they wanted to see Seowon before the surgery, so we stayed together for 10 days. I asked for their understanding. I told my parents-in-law I was sorry I couldn't prepare breakfast because I stayed up late taking care of the child and that I would prepare lunch and dinner for them. My parents-in-law said they understood," she recalled.
She continued, "We lived like that. The day before my parents left, Seowon's father was drinking outside. He called and said something. About that issue. He said, 'Why do you sleep when your parents are here and can't take care of them? Do you want them to come to your son's house and have them cook for you?' and wanted breakfast to be prepared," she said.
In the end, a fight erupted over the parents-in-law's breakfast. Park Jae-hyun explained, "To offer an excuse that is not really an excuse, my mother, who lives in the countryside and is elderly, would feel like our son was earning money and also running the household. At that time I was going to work at 8 a.m. and I wasn't angry about that; I just asked for this one thing, but there seems to have been a misunderstanding."
Han Hye-joo said, "That time was when we were planning to live together. I agreed, but while my parents-in-law were staying, they complained to me about not getting breakfast, and I thought it would be worse if we lived together," adding, "The next day I said let's reconsider living together. If I can't take care of my parents-in-law, then I can't live. So I left the house."
Park Jae-hyun said, "It was fine until the day before. The day after I asked once to make breakfast, after seeing off my parents-in-law and after my mother left, Hye-joo called and said, 'I can't take care of mother. I don't want your mother to come to our house, it's uncomfortable.' Hearing that was absurd and I couldn't come up with a good response," he said.
Han Hye-joo burst into tears, saying, "I never once talked about divorce. I wasn't going to get a divorce, but Seowon's father talked about divorce every time. It was really hard. Even when my ex-husband said let's divorce at the end, I prepared the divorce papers when my daughter needed her father. I wanted to protect the family."
Watching Han Hye-joo cry, Park Jae-hyun said, "I didn't want a divorce because I really wanted one. Aren't there times a man has to show resolve? Having my parents live with us was a sensitive issue for me. I received my mother's love."
