"X's private life" recalled the time of their divorce when emotions ran particularly deep for Park Jae-hyun and Han Hye-ju, who have been divorced for three years.
On Tuesday the 24th, Park Jae-hyun and Han Hye-ju, who divorced, appeared on TV CHOSUN's X's private life.
Park Jae-hyun and Han Hye-ju married after six months of dating and had a child four months later. Regarding this, Han Hye-ju said "the married life I dreamed of was living an ordinary life, but marriage and dating were different," and said there were differences in parenting styles. Han Hye-ju said "I felt suffocated, I had hyperventilation in the early morning, I was pumping milk and cried," and "still, my ex-husband insisted that I had to breastfeed (our daughter); he said that if she didn't breastfeed, wouldn't her immunity be weak?" Regarding forcing breastfeeding, Park Jae-hyun said "I can be rigid, but I didn't know my wife was having hyperventilation," and was surprised to learn that fact while watching the monitor. Han Hye-ju recalled that when they fought her age difference had been mentioned, saying "You say it's because you're young, I said I'm mature, but I realized I wasn't."
In particular, regarding the divorce Han Hye-ju said "from my ex-husband's point of view it was a divorce because I didn't take his mother in; from my point of view, taking care of our daughter was more important," and added that their daughter was born with a congenital heart disease so she had to care for her. Han Hye-ju said "the child was about to undergo a major operation and it happened to be when my in-laws were staying at our house for 10 days, so I asked for their understanding in advance because I thought I might not be able to take good care of them," and "my then-drunk ex-husband, when my parents came, asked why I couldn't even take care of them and just sleep; he wanted me to prepare breakfast for my in-laws."
Moreover, it happened to be the time they had plans to move in with the in-laws. Han Hye-ju said "after staying for ten days I thought it would continue like that, so at first I suggested living together, then I said let's think about it again," and "I said if you can't take care of my in-laws we can't live together, and my husband left the house." Regarding the marriage ending over the issue of moving in with the in-laws, Park Jae-hyun said "my mother said she was uncomfortable coming to the house, and I couldn't say anything good to my ex-wife who changed her mind."
Also, Han Hye-ju said "I never talked about divorce and I wasn't going to, but my ex-husband brought up divorce every time," and cried, "it was really hard. During the time our daughter needed her father for the surgery, I prepared the divorce papers while nursing her in the hospital." But because of the conflict, Park Jae-hyun had left the house. Han Hye-ju said at the time "I wanted to protect the family," adding to the sadness. Watching this on the monitor, Park Jae-hyun also said "I really didn't want a divorce" and "there were times I acted like a man, I'm sensitive about taking care of my parents, I grew up loved by my mother, but I also considered our daughter's illness."
After returning home, Han Hye-ju talked with her older sister. Her sister said "the tone and personality were not good; there was a prickly way of speaking and she was worried about generational differences," and frankly added, "I saw the article and the comments," even seeing shocking comments saying she sold her daughter because of money. Her sister said "'gold digger.' I cried alone after seeing comments like 'she married for money.'" Having suffered from groundless rumors, Han Hye-ju called the false rumors and malicious comments "very upsetting."
Regarding the divorce, Han Hye-ju said "every time the topic of divorce came up, I thought why do you bring up divorce so easily?," and "because we're family. I thought their shortcomings were part of that person. It was okay after passing, but the final situation was really unacceptable," opening up about her wounds and saying "I decided to divorce because my husband wasn't there when he was needed. It was before our daughter's surgery," and especially added "I still absolutely cannot forgive it."
But Park Jae-hyun said "I don't really know, my father was always where a father should be," and "our daughter wasn't having surgery right then. Because we fought, he wasn't there; I don't know why that was necessary." He expressed a different view, saying he once emotionally told their daughter "'Dad won't come anymore, live well together,'" but he didn't know if he truly wasn't there as a father.
Panelist Jung Kyung-mi, hearing this, told Park Jae-hyun "you shouldn't have handed over the divorce papers," to which Park Jae-hyun replied "I was that angry; even if I submitted the divorce papers, (my ex-wife) doesn't have to sign," and Kim Gu Ra said "no one would accept it like that," adding "in the end the husband wasn't there in the hard moments," empathizing with the hurt felt by the ex-wife Han Hye-ju.
