'Radio Star' short-track emperor and Olympic top medalist Choi Min-jeong recounted a misunderstanding about Kim Sang-kyum's medal win.
The MBC entertainment show 'Radio Star' aired on the 25th and held a special on '2026 Milano Cortina Olympics' medalists. Also appearing was Kim Sang-kyum, who broke the oldest athlete record held by shooting's Jin Jong-oh to become the oldest medalist at age 37, as well as the Olympics' 400th medal overall and the first medal of the 2026 Milano Winter Olympics.
The funny thing was that Choi Min-jeong, upon hearing about Kim Sang-kyum's first medal win, congratulated him on being exempted from military service. Choi Min-jeong said she was embarrassed, saying, "When I heard that Kim Sang-kyum won his first medal, I happily said, 'Kim Sang-kyum must have been exempted from military service.' But it turned out he was older than me."
Kim Sang-kyum said, "I often meet Choi Min-jeong at the athlete village, but I didn't know her age," adding, "After the competition they told me. They said it was the Olympics' 400th medal and that I was the oldest Olympic medalist," which drew laughter.
Kim Sang-kyum continued, "I train while lifting 250 kg. I'm preparing for the next Olympics. By the next Olympics I'll be over 40. But because it's a dream, it doesn't disappear," announcing another Olympic challenge.
