Actor Ha-young talked about what led her to become an actor.
A pictorial of actor Ha-young, who is appearing as "Lee Ji-yeon" in the Netflix series Boyfriend on Demand, was released by Cosmopolitan magazine. It captured the clean, clear image of actor Ha-young, who last year revealed her face more distinctly to the public in The Trauma Code: Heroes on call as "Cheon Jang-mi."
In an interview following the shoot, asked how she interpreted the character "Lee Ji-yeon" in Boyfriend on Demand, she replied, "She appears as the best friend of the lead, 'Seo Mi-rae.' Unlike Mi-rae, who leads a monotonous life, she has a very open mind. She likes dating and is a friend who is completely swept up in love. If Mi-rae's color is a neutral tone, I thought Ji-yeon is rainbow-colored. I applied that to Ji-yeon's wardrobe as well. In real life I have a very easygoing personality, but in this role I amplified my feminine side. We share an active and free-spirited way of thinking, but in some ways she is quite different from me, so it was very fun to portray her," introducing her role.
Asked what prompted her to become an actor after studying art for a long time, she said, "I always loved watching movies and drama. After finishing graduate school in New York, I thought I wanted to work in film or drama, and the tremendous energy of a big city like New York motivated me. That became my drive, and I resolved to have the courage to pursue what I wanted to do. I returned to Korea and took acting and scriptwriting classes. Acting was really fun—so thrilling it gave me a kind of euphoria. There was an irresistible attraction I can only describe as love at first sight," she said, also talking about the charm of acting.
Known as the daughter of a family of doctors, Ha-young was asked whether she felt anxious or impatient after changing career paths. She replied, "I still feel impatient. Because this profession involves a lot of waiting, when I don't have a project I spend a lot of time worrying about what to do. I always have the anxiety of 'what if I don't get chosen,' so every scene where I can act feels very precious to me."
Asked about the driving force that keeps her going through tiring and difficult moments, she expressed her passion for acting, saying, "Acting's greatest charm is that there's no time to be bored because every project involves playing a different character and that whole process affects my life. Completing a project is not easy, but when I meet a new role I like it as if I've met a new connection. It's also fun to delve into the occupations of each character."
Regarding her next project, she revealed her plans, saying, "After Boyfriend on Demand, I will show you Ha-young in a prosecutor role. Legal terms were very difficult, so I practiced a lot and received a lot of help from people around me. In the future I want to try action and historical drama genres that I haven't done before."
Finally, when asked what kind of actor she wants to be, she mentioned her dream and closed the interview, saying, "I would like to hear that someone felt better or that my work gave them some strength in life after seeing a piece I appear in, the way I felt watching many works myself."
