Nicola Coughlan (Nicola Coughlan, 38), star of the Netflix original series 'Bridgerton,' said social media (SNS) was having a negative impact on her life and made the dramatic decision to delete her account.
On the 23rd (local time), foreign media reported that Nicola Coughlan recently told the BBC in an interview, "Because SNS apps were having a really negative effect on me, I deleted them all from my phone." She added that in the future she would only download the apps briefly when promotion was necessary to post, then immediately delete them again.
Nicola's decision drew more attention because it came shortly after she directly refuted labeling herself as "plus size."
In a cover interview for the April issue of Elle UK magazine, she recalled filming the nude scene in "Bridgerton" season 3 that became a topic of conversation and confessed, "I had exercised a lot then and had lost a lot of weight. I was a size 10 at the time, and one of the corsets was size 8 (approximately 44–55 in Korean sizing)."
She continued, "And yet people called me 'plus size.' How wrong is it that the biggest woman you can see on screen is someone like me," criticizing Hollywood's narrow beauty standards.
In particular, Nicola drew a line saying she was "not at all interested" in being hailed as an icon of body positivity. Mentioning an experience when a fan approached her in a restroom complimenting her figure, she said, "I hated it so much I wanted to die. I couldn't see my family for months and devoted myself to acting, but it all ends up being about what I look like, which is so boring," expressing pride in her work as an actress.
Actor Andrew Garfield and Claire Foy, who co-star with her in the upcoming The Magic Faraway Tree, also attended the interview and supported Nicola's views. Andrew Garfield criticized the harms of SNS, saying, "Our consciousness is being hijacked by giant tech corporations," and Claire Foy echoed and supported that sentiment.
She deleted SNS, but love is ongoing. Nicola showed steadfast affection about her relationship with her partner, actor Jake Dunn, saying, "We're both busy but we FaceTime often and try to get along well. I love seeing him immersed in his work."<
