Actor Kim Junghyun is stimulating viewers' detective instincts with his excellent control of tempo.
Kim Junghyun in the tvN Monday-Tuesday drama 'Siren' (directed by Kim Cheol-gyu / creator Cho Hyunkyeong / written by Lee Young / produced by Studio Dragon, Cape EnA) plays the newly wealthy 'Baek Junbeom', not only showing a singular presence but also increasing immersion by conveying the character's emotions and the flow of relationships with his eyes alone. Here, we pinpoint the 'eye-expression narrative' points in episodes 1–7 that ignite the drama.
In the drama, from his first appearance Kim Junghyun exuded Baek Junbeom's characteristic chilly aura. He formed tension with a strange look, unable to take his eyes off chief auctioneer Han Seol-a (Park Minyoung), changing the atmosphere of the drama upon his entrance and leaving a strong impression. In addition, Junbeom turned cold when deputy auctioneer Kim Yoonji (Lee Eliya) greeted him, surprising viewers.
Meanwhile, Junbeom approached Seol-a as if he knew everything, arousing curiosity. He willingly consigns works for Seol-a and scouts her with an offer that's hard to refuse, naturally closing the distance. In particular, Junbeom asked Seol-a with a meaningful look, "Do you think Suho resents you because he died?" creating a chilling atmosphere. He then revealed that Lee Suho (Kim Dongjun) was entangled between the two by saying, "Do you think I'd seek revenge or something?" which raised viewers' curiosity.
In this way, Kim Junghyun convincingly portrays Baek Junbeom's complex inner self through subtle variations in his gaze. Kim Junghyun, who dominates every moment on screen, draws attention to how he will unfold Baek Junbeom's narrative as the veil is slowly lifted with each episode.
