Group Shinhwa member Kim Dong Wan has come under scrutiny amid successive controversies. From a careless social media remark to revelations by a former manager, fans' disappointment appears to be growing.
Kim Dong Wan posted on his personal social media on the 22nd, "Who would support Dingdong for no reason?" The remark, reported to refer to MC Dingdong, who was recently embroiled in an assault controversy involving a female BJ, immediately drew criticism.
Earlier, MC Dingdong drew public outrage after it became known that he grabbed and assaulted a female BJ by her hair during an internet live broadcast. The victim received a two-week medical prognosis and proceeded with a criminal complaint after refusing a settlement. In this context, Kim Dong Wan's "support" remark was criticized as seeming to downplay the seriousness of the incident.
As the controversy grew, Kim Dong Wan deleted the post and apologized, saying, "It was an expression that did not sufficiently consider the situation." However, public sentiment did not subside easily. Some fans publicly criticized him, saying, "I have followed you for a long time, but I am disappointed."
The controversy spread further after a post appeared from someone claiming to be a former manager. The person mentioned Kim Dong Wan's past behavior and attitude on social media, writing that "he has not changed then or now." They expressed strong dissatisfaction, particularly mentioning alcohol-related incidents and conflicts with fans during social media live broadcasts.
In response, Kim Dong Wan said on social media on the 23rd that "the content currently being circulated is false claims that do not reflect the facts," and added that "if the spreading of false information continues, I will take legal action."
Recently Kim Dong Wan also stirred controversy with remarks about legalizing prostitution. He expressed the view that "we should acknowledge reality and regulate it," but his comments were criticized as careless when addressing a socially sensitive issue.
