Park Ji-min of "1st place" moved everyone to tears with her bold vocal power.
On the 22nd broadcast of MBC variety show "1st place," a 1:1 rival match was arranged, and Park Ji-min overcame controversies about her singing ability and delivered a perfect performance.
That day, facing a 1:1 rival match with Park Chang-geun, Park Ji-min alone could not smile at Park Chang-geun's standing-ovation–inducing stage. He said "He is the toughest. He said you have to go up, but he had prepared so well. Actually, it isn't easy to beat someone who enjoys it that much."
Earlier, Park Ji-min confessed to hypothyroidism and vocal cord nodules and explained the controversies over her singing ability up to now. He said "I could see that people watching my stage were very shocked. 'Why does she sing like that?' There were people around me who were disappointed, and many reacted saying you're not that kind of person, so why do you sing like that. It showed how lacking I am right now. My spirit was crushed," he confessed.
Park Ji-min expressed determination, saying "From now on I shouldn't be like that. As a singer. I should pull out and show my own things now. I will show the stage the way I used to."
The MCs also earnestly supported Park Ji-min's performance. Making use of her specialty, Park Ji-min chose Gummy's "Adult Child" and staged the song.
Park Ji-min said "I thought I couldn't keep going like this. I didn't want to explain away everything by saying 'I couldn't do music because I went through this and that.' Because a singer is someone who proves it on stage, I wanted to prove it on stage. I have to keep being a singer."
Having hit the rhythm from the start, unlike the previous stage, Park Ji-min stretched the high notes cleanly and delivered a perfect performance. Rhee Minjung said "It's so good. She broke through," and a tearful Baek Z Young, moved, said "Of course, she got applause. That becomes strength for a singer. She did her genre so well," looking at her proudly.
Heo Sung-tae, who also showed tears as always, said of Park Ji-min's stage, "I kept rooting for her. Since she showed bad aspects early on, whether it's a handicap or an illness, overcoming that must be really hard. I watched anxiously when the high notes came. But when she went up, I thought 'it's done.' I watched very emotionally," and added, "She seems likely to become an icon of overcoming."
Unfortunately, Park Ji-min failed to advance to the 'head-to-head match' by only three votes. But he said, "I'm not disappointed at all. I will show even better performances in the future." In response, Rhee Minjung asked, "I heard you practiced a lot. How much did you practice?"
Park Ji-min revealed, "I practiced every day. I took two hours of lessons every day and practiced another 10 hours," saying she practiced a total of 12 hours. He added, "Hitting the right pitch was continuously difficult, but now it seems to be getting aligned."
In particular, Park Ji-min said, "This stage wasn't done to get a certain result; it was more about me trying to break my own wall. So I practiced even more fiercely and took care of my voice."
Baek Z Young, who had been more eager in her support than anyone, said proudly, "I'm so proud and pleased. I think we'll be able to see her improve, grow and become stronger from here. I felt very moved."
Finally, Park Ji-min said, "There were times I wondered 'Why did I do music,' but seeing so many people clap, I realized I'm still doing music. It wasn't caught on many cameras, but people kept telling me as they passed by, 'Ji-min, you can really do it today.' Because there are people cheering for me, I don't think I could give up music," expressing gratitude.<
