Cube Entertainment Corp. alumni Park Chorong, Lee Changseop and Son Dongwoon recalled difficult times during their trainee days.
Recently, the YouTube channel "Lee Changseop & Jeo Changseop" uploaded a video titled "Came to set the current K-pop discipline (Apink, BTOB, BEAST)."
In the video, regarding rules and culture at Cube, Park Chorong said, "There were evaluations every weekend. There were weekend evaluations and month-end evaluations."
Lee Changseop explained, "Weekly evaluations were about what you practiced during the week, and month-end evaluations were evaluations of whether to cut you or not." He added, "But they cut without hesitation. If you couldn't lose weight, you were cut."
Park Chorong said, "Every Monday we measured our weight," and Son Dongwoon recalled, "Right, they weighed the women. The female trainees."
Lee Changseop said, "We were weighed too. When I joined, I think I was about 80kg. But I lost weight down to 60kg," which surprised listeners.
The producer asked, "What weight did they want?" and Lee Changseop explained, "They wanted women to be in the 40kg range. Men were in the mid-60kg range, and taller guys were in the low 70s."
Park Chorong revealed, "Because I couldn't lose weight, the dance teacher quietly came and said, 'Chorong, there are talks that you are a little in danger right now.' So I ran on the treadmill in the practice room crying."
