"Are women and men the same?". A line that makes you wonder if you're watching a 2026 drama appeared in 'Doctor Shin' and is causing shock.
On the 22nd episode aired TV CHOSUN weekend drama 'Doctor Shin' episode 4, Ha Jaeim (Jeon No-min) openly showed her affection toward Geum Bara (Joo Se bin).
That day Ha Jaeim smiled blissfully thinking of Geum Bara at all times. Earlier, after receiving a fortune from the crystal ball saying she would have a daughterlike wife, Ha Jaeim coveted Geum Bara, the younger sister of An Hee, who had been like a real brother in the childhood of her younger brother Ha Yongjoong (An Woo Yeon), as her own wife.
In fact Geum Bara liked Ha Yongjoong, whom she followed like an older brother. Taking advantage of Geum Bara and Ha Yongjoong's friendship, Ha Jaeim called Geum Bara over to give side dishes or planned to give a painting as a gift, thinking "Would you like it if she called me oppa too?" and dreamed of a happy future.
The problem was the 23-year age gap between Geum Bara and Ha Jaeim. Whether it fit the fortune of a "daughterlike wife," in the drama Geum Bara was in her late 20s and Ha Jaeim was 50. Seeing Ha Jaeim say she would give Geum Bara a painting, Ha Yongjoong noticed his brother's feelings and stopped him.
Ha Yongjoong made an incredulous face saying, "Brother, you're fifty," but Ha Jaeim spouted sophistry, saying, "Age by rice cake soup doesn't matter at all." The more she said that, Ha Yongjoong drew a line saying, "It matters a lot. In 10 years you'll be 60 and Bara will be in her 30s." Even so, Ha Jaeim was obsessive, saying "late 30s."
"Get a grip!", "How could you go after someone like Bara who is like a daughter," Ha Yongjoong was disgusted by his brother's greed. He even rebuked, "What if a woman 23 years older than you came rushing in saying she liked you?"
Nevertheless Ha Jaeim said the anachronistic line, "Are women and men the same?" Ha Yongjoong tried to dissuade her, saying, "You might get beaten up," but Ha Jaeim shrugged it off, saying, "Whether I get beaten with a club or a rice cake mallet," and wrapped the painting Geum Bara had been watching carefully to give as a gift.
Although love beyond age exists in reality, a sexist line like "Are women and men the same" crossed the line by a long shot.
'Doctor Shin' was early on noted as the new work by writer Im Sung-han, who has penned popular dramas. Was Im Sung-han's true intent Ha Yongjoong sharply rebuking his brother, or was it Ha Jaeim's obsession prioritizing greed over Geum Bara's feelings? Will that answer continue into a more sensible story in later developments?<
