Prosecutors sought life imprisonment for the group that kidnapped and attempted to kill game YouTuber Sutak, who has 1.07 million subscribers.
On the 23rd according to legal sources, prosecutors at the Incheon District Court Criminal Division 13 (Kim Gipung Director General presiding) sought life imprisonment for used car dealer Mr. A and acquaintance Mr. B, who were indicted on charges including attempted robbery-murder, at the recent sentencing hearing.
They sought seven years in prison for Mr. C, who lent them the tools for the crime, on charges including assisting robbery and injury.
A prosecutor said the reason for the sentence was that the crime was planned and therefore grave, and that they sought a harsh punishment considering, among other things, that no agreement had been reached with the victim.
Earlier, Sutak was kidnapped and assaulted by two men in their 20s to 30s in the underground parking lot of an APT. in Songdo, Incheon, last year. Police arrested the kidnapping ring at a memorial park in Geumsan, North Chungcheong, and an investigation found they had planned to lure the victim under the pretext of a vehicle contract and extort money and valuables.
As a result of the incident, Sutak suffered serious injuries including orbital fractures and a fracture of the ring finger, 35 stitches on the forehead and jaw, and reduced vision and hearing.
Sutak recently asked subscribers to submit petitions and requested help, saying, "The trials of the perpetrators are currently underway and I have heard they have submitted more than 40 letters of remorse. From the victim's position, honestly it is contemptible and infuriating. If you want to provide direct help regarding the case, I would appreciate it if you would write a petition through the link."
