'Salimnam 2' singer Hwanhee opened up about his family life for the first time.
On the 21st episode of KBS2TV's variety show 'Salimnam 2', singer Park Seojin's Ilsan concert, the friendship with guest Baek Z Young and singer Hwanhee's first appearance on an observational variety show took place.
Park Seojin met Baek Z Young, who had been a previous Salimnam MC, after a long time. Baek Z Young spent happy moments eating Busan fish cake with Park Hyojeong and kimchi that Park Hyojeong had made herself, and during the concert she melted the audience's hearts with hit songs such as 'I Don't Love You'.
After the concert, they had a happy time at a baeksuk restaurant for the afterparty including Baek Z Young. Park Seojin, who is not very interested in food, handed Baek Z Young a hand-painted minhwa, a handwritten letter and a bouquet. Park Seojin said, "It is a painting of flowers and birds. I heard butterflies symbolize spouses and wealth. I heard peonies symbolize health," which moved Baek Z Young.
What made Baek Z Young cry was the handwritten letter. Park Seojin wrote, 'I always wanted to express my gratitude to nuna, and this felt like the chance, so I'm writing this letter before it's too late. For over a year, thanks to nuna's big and warm reactions, I was able to film Salimnam comfortably. I truly appreciated the response; I only thought I wanted to emulate her professionalism, but looking back over time, I realized it wasn't simply professional reaction but support for me. When I was so exhausted I couldn't sleep, I met nuna,' he wrote.
Baek Z Young actually could not hold back her tears. Baek Z Young said, "Seojin, I hope your heart doesn't get hurt. People like that don't decrease. But you don't know that. Hyojeong, don't ever get hurt. Think you won't get hurt by such things. Then someday you will never be hurt," expressing genuine concern and advice about the siblings' fame, love, attention and malicious comments.
Eun Ji-won guessed that sincerity by saying, "Baek Z Young would know well."
Hwanhee appeared on Salimnam after refusing for three years. Now living a second life as a trot singer, Hwanhee was popular as a tough-feeling singer even when he was part of a two-member R&B act, but now he was receiving love from a wide range of age groups. However, there was one thing he still did not fully understand: his mother's feelings, and he thought appearing on Salimnam might allow him to do various things with his mother.
Hwanhee thought his mother was taciturn, but she gave a cheerful interview to the production team. Seeing that, Hwanhee said, "I should go right away," and headed to his mother's house. He abruptly told his mother he wanted to eat with her because she had said, "My son has a weak stomach. He saw rice grains stuck on something. Since then I have been careful," which bothered him. Then Hwanhee was taken aback when he saw soju and beer in the refrigerator. His mother found consolation in life by drinking a soju-and-beer mix on nights when she couldn't sleep.
Hwanhee's mother said, "It's embarrassing to say, but I have never been to Jeju. I don't even have a passport. We were so poor I never thought about traveling," she said. Hwanhee revealed he grew up knowing nothing because his mother never showed their poverty. Hwanhee proposed moving in together, saying, "I'll move into mom's house and do the things I couldn't do until now," but his mother said, "I know how you feel, but that can't happen. I'm already struggling as the head of the household, and I don't want to make your life harder," she said. Hwanhee vowed to work harder to strengthen his relationship with his mother.
