Jo Hang Jo said he could not be at his father's deathbed.
On the 21st broadcast of MBN 'Kim Ju-ha's Day & Night' (hereinafter Day & Night), Nam Jin and Jo Hang Jo appeared.
Jo Hang Jo said that it is not his real name and that his real name is "Hong Won-pyo." Jo Hang Jo explained, "I felt I was neglecting my family too much, so I quit music and went to the United States. After enduring three years there, it became too difficult. I started running a club for Korean residents. I formed a band called a new wave band."
Jo Hang Jo said, "Living abroad made me miss Korea. When I turned on Korean broadcasts, the national anthem played. I missed Korea. As the head of the household leading my family, many things I felt matched the stories and lyrics of popular songs to my life. So I changed my mind," explaining what led him to trot music.
Jo Hang Jo said, "My father strongly opposed it. Especially among family members and relatives, they were all of Christian background. They were missionaries and pastors, and they strongly opposed it, saying I would be doing something disreputable," sharing his father's reaction.
Jo Hang Jo said calmly, "My father was hospitalized when I was working at night establishments. It was during a curfew. I had to go to the hospital then, but I received news midway that my father had passed away. So I couldn't see him at the deathbed." Jo Hang Jo expressed his love for his father, saying, "My father was always strict and someone who was difficult to be close to. If my father were alive now, I would want to go anywhere with him like a brother."
He said, "I want to do that for my son, but in reality it does not work out well. My son and I are separated. When my son was 3, I came back to Korea. My son is in the United States. When my son needed his father, I wasn't there. When children hear that their father is gone, they usually cry, but my son turned his head to the car window and cried. It was very deep inside. My heart aches. Seeing my son now, because of those things, realistically I cannot get close," expressing his apologetic feelings toward his son.
