"1deungdeul" Park Ji-min's singing ability has returned.
On the 22nd broadcast of MBC variety show "1deungdeul," a "one-on-one rival match" that completely overturned the existing competition format unfolded.
That day, a one-on-one showdown between Park Chang-geun and Park Ji-min took place. Park Chang-geun passionately sang Kim Chu-ja's "Nim-eun meon gote" (You are in a distant place), evoking the Sessibong stage. The audience gave a standing ovation. While everyone was impressed, Park Ji-min, who could not smile alone, said, "She is the toughest person. She said you have to go up, but she had prepared so well. Actually, it's not easy to beat someone who enjoys it that much."
Before going on stage, Park Ji-min looked back on his previous performance. He confessed, "I could see that people watching my performance were very shocked. There were people around me who felt disappointed and many reactions like, 'Why does he sing like that when he's not that kind of person?' That showed how much I'm lacking now. I had lost confidence."
Above all, he expressed determination, saying, "Starting now, shouldn't I stop doing that as a singer? I should bring out my own things and show them. I will show the stage the way I originally did."
With the hosts' earnest support continuing, Park Ji-min chose Gummy's "Adult child" and began his performance. He said, "I think I can't keep getting by like this. I didn't want to explain away by saying, 'I couldn't do music because I went through this and that.' Because a singer is someone who proves themselves on stage, I should prove it on stage. I have to keep being a singer."
From the start, Park Ji-min rode the rhythm and, unlike his precarious previous stage, belted out high notes refreshingly, surprising everyone. Rhee Minjung said, "It's so good. He broke through," and a moved Baek Z Young said, "Of course, because he received applause. That gives singers more strength. He did his genre very well."
In particular, Heo Sung-tae shed tears at Park Ji-min's performance. He said, "I kept rooting for him. Because he showed not-so-good signs at the beginning, whether it's a handicap or illness, overcoming that must be really hard. I watched nervously when the high notes came. But when he hit them, I thought, 'He made it.' I got too absorbed watching," and he added, "He seems likely to become an icon of overcoming."
Meanwhile, Park Ji-min narrowly failed to advance to the head-to-head match by a margin of three votes. Nevertheless, he showed a candid attitude, saying, "I'm not disappointed at all. I will show even better performances in the future."
Rhee Minjung asked, "I heard you practiced a lot. How much did you practice?" Park Ji-min revealed, "I practiced every day. I took two hours of lessons every day and practiced the remaining 10 hours myself," saying he practiced a total of 12 hours.
He added, "Hitting the right pitch kept being difficult, but now it seems to be getting in place," and said, "This performance wasn't done to get a particular result but more to break my own barrier. That's why I practiced so stubbornly and took care of my voice."
Baek Z Young expressed pride, saying, "I'm so proud and pleased. I think we will see him improve, grow, and become firmer from here. I felt very moved."
