'Hangout With Yoo' Yu Jae-seok was betrayed by his colleagues and paid the bill alone.
The March 21 broadcast of MBC variety show 'Hangout With Yoo' (directed by Kim Jin-yong, Lee Joo-won, Kim Ki-ho, An Ji-seon, Bang Seong-su, Park Eun-jin / writer No Min-seon) was presented as the "country boys' heyday — war of money 2 in Gimhae" episode featuring Yu Jae-seok, HaHa, Heo Kyunghwan, Joo Woo-jae and Yang Sang-guk. The five men, who visited Yang Sang-guk's hometown of Gimhae in Gyeongsangnam-do, delivered big laughs once again as they staged a "war of money" full of suspicion and betrayal.
The broadcast recorded a 4.8% household rating in the Seoul metropolitan area, ranking first in its time slot. The key channel competitiveness indicator reflecting changes in media consumption, the 20-54 rating, was 2.9%, continuing its run as the top program in its time slot and among Saturday variety shows. The top moment of the show was when Yu Jae-seok and HaHa finally ate rice and meat together after rice orders were blocked by the Gyeongsang-do style "meat first, rice later," with the minute peak rating rising to 6.6%. Yang Sang-guk, who was not treated special in Seoul, flamboyantly ordered a round in his hometown Gimhae and received cheers. A comment saying he resembled "Prince Charles (now king)" was also mentioned, provoking laughter. Yang Sang-guk boasted, "I have the face of British nobility." He also joked about the strong response from the previous broadcast, saying, "My life changed after appearing on 'Hangout With Yoo,'" noting that people now see him on the same level as Yu Jae-seok.
The first local Gimhae course Yang Sang-guk prepared was the tomb of King Kim Suro. On the way, Joo Woo-jae suggested stopping at an espresso bar, and Yang Sang-guk said, "If you die and are in the grave, would people coming with coffee be good or bad?" Yang Sang-guk was embarrassed by the accusation about his pronunciation. Yu Jae-seok pressured him, saying, "Sang-guk, you're riding high — are you going to go down like this?" and as a senior in broadcasting displayed an uncontroversial pronunciation.
At the next course at the amusement park, Yang Sang-guk continued to treat by paying the entrance fee, snack costs and ride tickets. Seeing Yang Sang-guk paying, the members confidently demanded churros and coffee to get something, and Yang Sang-guk, who was duped even in Gimhae, regretted it, saying, "Should I not have said I'd pay?"
They then headed to Yang Sang-guk's real hometown neighborhood, Jinyoung-eup, and "Prince Jinyoung" Yang Sang-guk marched ahead energetically, greeting residents with "The lord has arrived." Joo Woo-jae, seeing Yang Sang-guk, a local celebrity limited to Jinyoung town, marveled, "In this neighborhood, 'Sang-guk, Sang-guk' comes out before 'Yu Jae-seok.'" Seeing welcome banners for Yang Sang-guk hung around Jinyoung, the members reacted, "So that's why he was greeting people," causing laughter.
The final stop was the beef-ribs restaurant Yang Sang-guk frequented as a child. The five men's promise, "Let's not talk about money here," was broken when it came time to pay. HaHa pressured Yu Jae-seok, saying, "If you don't pay here, you're not a man," and Yu Jae-seok, abandoning pride, defended himself, "I'm not a man!" A fierce battle of wits even broke out over who would go to the restroom. While HaHa was in the restroom, Yu Jae-seok attempted to escape but was hit by a splash of water thrown by HaHa. It turned out HaHa had faked toilet sounds to set a trap.
The five men, who had been bickering, ultimately proceeded with one last fateful bet, and HaHa won. However, thinking filming had ended, HaHa went to the restroom and when he returned the bill was handed to Yu Jae-seok. Under Joo Woo-jae's lead, the group canceled the payment and all ran away. Yu Jae-seok, helplessly betrayed by his colleagues, paid the 180,000-won meal bill alone. The ending, with HaHa, Heo Kyunghwan, Joo Woo-jae and Yang Sang-guk running away shouting, "For Jinyoung's local economy the national MC has to pay once," and "It's not over until it's over. Jae-seok, brother, enjoy your meal!" and Yu Jae-seok getting soaked, betrayed and stuck with the bill, left viewers laughing.
The next broadcast preview raised expectations by showing the members transformed into matriarchs alongside Lee Yongjin and LalaLi in the "eat and slim group." MBC's 'Hangout With Yoo' airs every Saturday at 6:30 p.m.
