Idol group Shinhwa member Kim Dong Wan is being criticized after publicly supporting broadcaster MC Dingdong, who is embroiled in a controversy over assaulting a female BJ.

Earlier, MC Dingdong drew controversy after grabbing female BJ A's hair and committing assault while hosting an internet live broadcast known as an "Excel broadcast." At the time, A mentioned MC Dingdong's past drunk driving incident, which enraged MC Dingdong and led to the sudden action of grabbing the presenter's hair. Moreover, the scene was broadcast intact through an internet live stream, causing shock.
MC Dingdong later apologized on a live broadcast, saying, "I had almost no work for a year and a half and was finally trying to get back to work, and when the past incident was suddenly mentioned, my emotions flared. There was trauma from words that reminded me of the incident two years ago," but criticism continued over the quickly unfolding assault.
He later released another statement saying, "Among the contents spread online, there are parts that are not factual or exaggerated interpretations based on only some scenes," and "We are currently proceeding with necessary procedures, including civil and criminal responses, through legal representatives," announcing strong legal action.
However, the assaulted female BJ also rejected a 10 million won settlement and, citing trauma and a two-week recovery diagnosis for the assault injuries, announced plans to file a complaint against MC Dingdong. Furthermore, because it was true that MC Dingdong drove drunk in 2022 while extremely intoxicated and evaded police investigation and received a suspended prison sentence, public criticism intensified.
Meanwhile, Kim Dong Wan posted a message of support for MC Dingdong. Coincidentally, just a month earlier Kim Dong Wan sparked controversy after posting on SNS in favor of "legalizing prostitution." At the time, Kim Dong Wan explained, "What I am worried about is the influx of minors, lack of disease management, and exploitation within illegal structures," but the controversy continued, drawing further attention.
