Snowboard national team member Yu Seun-geun revealed the behind-the-scenes story of how she won a medal with world-class technique and a journey like a drama.
On the 21st broadcast, MBC variety show Omniscient Interfering View (hereafter Omniscient Interfering View) featured Yu Seun-geun, who won Korea's first medal in the snowboard big air institutional sector at the 2026 Milan Winter Olympics.
That day Song Eun I said, "I think I'm nervous," and Yu Seun-geun said, "I'm more nervous than at the Olympics because these are the people I watched on TV," and "my MBTI is 100% I, so I get very nervous."
He then mentioned the decisive moment when she won the medal. Yu Seun-geun succeeded in a 1,440-degree rotation in the first round, a high-difficulty technique known to be performed by only about five female athletes worldwide.
About this, he recalled, "When I was spinning in the air, I thought 'it feels good.'"
The story about equipment drew particular attention. When Yang Se-hyung asked, "I heard you used a 500,000 won board," Yu Seun-geun said, "Normally athletes get sponsored and use custom equipment, but I couldn't," and "it was an off-season item, but the performance difference wasn't large, so I chose it."
He added, "Because it was inexpensive, I told my mother let's go with this," which moved listeners.
He also explained the national team selection process. "I couldn't compete in events because of an ankle injury and couldn't accumulate points," he said, "my ranking at the time was 55th, but I finished second at the last competition and was selected for the national team."
Meanwhile, about two months after joining the national team, Yu Seun-geun won an Olympic medal and rose as a new star.<
