Actor Park Shin-yang of Problem Child in House confessed the lonely time he spent alone in his studio, not on acting sets, for the past 13 years and the decisive reason he switched careers to become a painter.
On the 19th, Park Shin-yang, who is active as both an actor and a painter, appeared on KBS2 Problem Child in House, which aired on the 19th.
Park Shin-yang revealed an unexpected battle with illness when asked why he suddenly started painting. Park Shin-yang recalled the pain at the time, saying, "I didn't plan to start painting," and, "I had a thyroid problem and spent time unable to get up at all."
He confessed that during the time he had to stop activities because of his illness, he was overwhelmed by an unknown longing. Park Shin-yang said, "I was overwhelmed by a longing I didn't know where it came from, so I went into an art supply store and bought various things," and, "On the first day I painted about five pieces and stayed up all night. Before I knew it, time had flown by," showing an unusual level of immersion in painting.
What is particularly surprising is that he never formally learned painting. Park Shin-yang said he taught himself with only his own senses and passion without mentoring from experts and built his own artistic world.
Park Shin-yang candidly said, "In the past 13 years I have never had anyone's understanding." When asked by Hong Jin Kyung about his wife's reaction after he switched to being a painter, Park Shin-yang said, "I don't know how many people in Korea truly understood me," drawing attention.
