'I Live Alone' webtoon artist and broadcaster Kian84 met Junji Ito, the master of Japanese horror manga who has been his eternal role model.
On the 20th episode broadcast on MBC's I Live Alone, Kian84 was shown sitting face to face with his idol, manga artist Junji Ito.
Kian84, who had long admired Junji Ito, was at a loss for what to do when he met him and exchanged emotional greetings. In a subsequent interview, Kian84 said, "When I actually met him my mouth would not close. That person was moving and alive in front of me. It was so amazing. I just really, really liked it," expressing his overwhelming feelings.
Kian84 delivered his first greeting in carefully prepared Japanese, "Meeting you like this feels like a dream. Culture has made me dream," conveying his sincere fandom. Junji Ito replied that he already knew of Kian84's activities and had watched Kian84's solo exhibition directly on YouTube. In particular, he offered a surprising reaction to Kian84's illustrations, saying "they were cute," creating a warm atmosphere.
Kian84 confessed, "In '94 I first saw the teacher's manga at an old bookstore in front of our house. I was greatly influenced by the teacher." He added, "The teacher is like a swirling universe to me," expressing deep respect for the master.
