HYBE Music Group APAC representative Yoo Dong-ju spoke about "why Gwanghwamun."
On the 20th, at Cinecube Gwanghwamun in Jongno-gu, Seoul, a premedia briefing for "BTS comeback live: ARIRANG" was held. The event was attended by Brandon Riegg, vice president of Netflix nonfiction series and sports institutional sector; Garrett English; Kim Hyun-jung, vice president of BigHit Music; and Yoo Dong-ju, HYBE Music Group APAC representative.
On the 21st at 8 p.m., "BTS comeback live: ARIRANG," held around Gwanghwamun Square in Seoul, is Netflix's first live event and music performance broadcast from Korea to the world.
In particular, this live event is Netflix's first live music performance broadcast and the first live event transmitted from Korea to the world. BTS's comeback stage, starting in Gwanghwamun, Seoul, is scheduled to be shared with global viewers through Netflix.
At the event, Yoo Dong-ju, who oversees the music, performances, IP and content labels and solution business at HYBE MUSIC GROUP APAC, opened by saying, "Why Gwanghwamun is also connected to BTS's identity. What is BTS-like? We thought about what kind of performance only BTS can do."
He continued, "BTS is making a comeback after about four years, and I thought it was a historic moment that shapes BTS's future. Producer Bang Si-hyuk, who oversaw this comeback, said that if BTS, who started in Korea and became global superstars, were to make a comeback, the starting point should be Korea and it should be Korea's most symbolic place."
Yoo said, "This comeback also aligns with HYBE's vision. Fan vision was important, and I think it is a culturally rare experience for fans and the public, Koreans and foreigners, to all raise a toast and enjoy a performance together at Korea's most iconic place. I also think that spreading this globally itself is very meaningful," and added, "We thought Netflix was the most appropriate partner for a project in which we create iconic scenes with many global fans in this symbolic space called Seoul. This is not a simple concert; I am sure it will be a historic event."
