The late Wheesung's songs are being sung again in the voices of fellow artists.
TAJOYENT will release the project album Wheesung tribute X MBC It's Live, Hua Yang Yeon Hwa Part.1, on various music sites at 6 p.m. on the 20th.
This album is a tribute project commemorating the first anniversary of Wheesung's death, in which artists connected to him newly reinterpret and present his signature songs. Filled with memories and longing in each voice, it was completed with the desire to keep Wheesung's music, which remains loved unchanged over time, remembered for a long time.
The first album honoring Wheesung, Hua Yang Yeon Hwa Part.1, features Ali, Bang Yedam, Na Yoon-kwon, Soul-G and Jung In, and includes a total of five tracks.
Ali added special meaning to this remake by participating based on the connection of having entered popular music as a chorus singer on Wheesung's "The day we met again." Through explosive vocal power and delicate emotional expression, she deeply expanded the original song's poignancy, and at the end of the track she conveys deep resonance by capturing the emotions of the moments when she sang as his chorus.
Solo artist Bang Yedam, who continues Wheesung's R&B lineage, delivered "With Me" with his own sensuous vocals and detailed expressiveness, conveying the message of the song. In particular, the sophisticated Spanish mood added to the rhythmic sound enriched the song's sentiment and increased immersion.
Na Yoon-kwon reinterpreted "A story I cannot tell" and unfolded the song's narrative more delicately. His characteristic soft and delicate vocal line calmly builds emotion, maximizing the lyric's aching feelings for the untold heart and leaving a deep aftertaste.
Next, Soul-G completed "From the sky" with explosive vocal power and deep emotional expression. While maintaining the original's jazzy and gospel sensibility, the arrangement added rhythm to the hook part to create a tight groove, rebirthing the track with a sophisticated change.
Finally, Jung In reinterpreted "It's okay to get hurt" with her own sensibility. The increasingly building emotional line within her richly pleading tone and restrained vocals extends the song's lingering effect, and by adding the warm, analog sensibility characteristic of '90s pop ballads, she completed a new atmosphere.
The album title Hua Yang Yeon Hwa is the subtitle of Wheesung's debut album title track "Can't it be?" and means "the most beautiful and radiant times." As Wheesung's songs, which led the golden age of Korean R&B, remain important references for many vocalists today, this tribute album is expected to serve as an opportunity to reexamine his musical value.
