Actress Lee Sung-kyoung (agency Fantagio) is showing off her prowess as a "wannabe icon" with diverse styling.
Lee Sung-kyoung plays Song Ha-ran, the chief designer of high-end fashion house "Nana Atelier," in the MBC Friday-Saturday drama In Your Radiant Season (planning Namgung Seong-woo, script Jo Seong-hee, directed by Jeong Sang-hee and Kim Young-jae, produced by Pan Entertainment), and she showcased meticulous fashion points suited to the character, revealing an overwhelming presence.
With her distinctive physique and fashion sense that captured viewers' attention, Lee Sung-kyoung is elevating the drama's immersion by delicately portraying the character's inner self and psychological state through not only acting but also diverse styling.
▲ "As expected, Lee Sung-kyoung"...different styling in each scene and limitless adaptability
In In Your Radiant Season, Lee Sung-kyoung displayed enthusiasm by wearing about 150 costumes and presenting new styling in each scene without repetition. This is the result of Lee Sung-kyoung's 고민 to achieve perfection for the designer role. Beyond her passion for acting, her efforts to pay close attention to external details such as accessories, hair, and makeup act as another "viewing pleasure" of the drama.
Lee Sung-kyoung's styling freely crossed the boundaries of materials and patterns. She reinterpreted a potentially monotonous denim set into a high-end sensibility, showcasing a uniqueness befitting a chief designer, and presented the epitome of polished business looks through various garments such as cozy-textured tweed and suede jackets. She also added sense to office looks that could otherwise appear stiff by subtle direction such as popping the shirt collar or lightly draping a muffler for a point.
▲ Emotional changes indirectly shown through 'various costumes'
At the beginning of the drama, to express Song Ha-ran, who shut her heart due to past trauma, Lee Sung-kyoung presented restrained office looks centered on neutral colors. With tailored jackets and suit styling, she revealed the charisma of a professional fashion designer while visually conveying Ha-ran's loneliness living with her emotions blocked from the outside.
Lee Sung-kyoung also made styling differences to match Ha-ran's psychological state as she begins to open her heart to Sunwoo Chan (Chae Jong Hyeop) and those around her. Instead of office looks, she used bright items such as cable knits with soft textures and shirts in radiant pastel tones, effectively depicting the character's increasingly bright inner world through external changes and capturing viewers' attention.
Regarding this, Lee Sung-kyoung's stylist Jeong Da-mi said, "To fully convey the identity of a young and capable fashion designer, I wanted to show the momentary emotions and narrative together, beyond simply 'pretty styling,'" and added, "I hoped each outfit would feel like a reason for 'why this character wore this clothes,' and I designed the styles to change subtly according to the flow of emotion."
In this way, Lee Sung-kyoung enhanced the drama's completeness by realizing the character's psychology changing from a cold winter to a warm spring through diverse fashion. Through styling variations over time, he is completing his own 'Song Ha-ran look,' and anticipation is growing for what performances he will show in the remaining episodes.
Meanwhile, In Your Radiant Season, featuring Lee Sung-kyoung, airs every Friday and Saturday at 9:50 p.m. on MBC.
