'New Recruit 4: Sabotage' returns fully equipped with penetrating laughter and empathy.
ENA's new Monday-Tuesday drama New Recruit (directed by Min Jin-gi·Jo Je-wook, written by Yoon Ki-young·Kim Dan, planned by KT Studio Genie, produced by Story Island) has confirmed production of its fourth season and has begun full-scale filming.
The drama New Recruit, which originated from the mega-hit animation of the same name, is a hyperrealism military comedy that depicts the story that unfolds when the "military spoon" new recruit enlists in a place where all kinds of people, from good guys to bad guys to strange guys, are all gathered. The episodes of realistic empathy, exquisitely blended with delightful comedy, targeted the tastes of the public across genders and generations and were loved in all previous seasons.
In 'New Recruit 4: Sabotage,' the latter half of Private First Class Park Min-seok's (played by Kim Min-ho) dynamic barracks life, who falls into endless worry upon promotion to lance corporal, is portrayed. What he thought would end once he reached lance corporal turns into a turbulent act two as a mysterious new recruit and the battalion commander appear. In particular, the return of noncommissioned officer Choi Il-gu (played by Nam Tae-woo), who left the unit in tears last season, the story of Moon Bit-na-ri (played by Kim Yo-han), who received an ace junior, and other new stories of the New Recruits are expected to unfold more interestingly. Director Min Jin-gi, who pioneered the new genre known as "military content," and comedy master writer Yoon Ki-young have reunited, and writer Kim Dan, who worked on New Recruit season 1, has joined to further stimulate anticipation.
Above all, the returning laughter special forces Kim Min-ho, Kim Dong-jun, Oh Dae-Hwan, Nam Tae-woo, Lee Sang-jin, Jo Jin-se, Lee Chung-gu, Jeon Seung-hoon, Kim Yo-han and Lee Su-ji raise expectations for their sharpened character play. Attention is also focused on the performances of the "new faces" Lee Hyun-kyun and Lee Won-jung, who will further elevate the fun.
Kim Min-ho returns as Park Min-seok, who wears the lance corporal insignia and becomes part of the senior line. The lance corporal life, which he thought would be all smooth sailing, is expected to become unprecedentedly fierce with the appearance of extraordinary new faces. After a hopeless period as a new recruit, Park Min-seok has grown into a lance corporal who must take care of a squad, and his activities are more anticipated than ever. Kim Dong-jun once again stars as Private Jeon Se-gye, who went from a beloved star to a perfect soldier beloved by his seniors. Oh Dae-Hwan, who plays the official human vitamin of the Shinhwa unit, Jo Baek-ho, and Nam Tae-woo, who returned as noncommissioned officer Choi Il-gu, are also expected to carry the show. The awkward but warmer-than-anyone squad leader Oh Seok-jin played by Lee Sang-jin, No Hee-jung played by Jo Jin-se, Kim Sang-hoon played by Lee Chung-gu, Im Da-hye played by Jeon Seung-hoon, Private Moon Bit-na-ri played by Kim Yo-han, the authentic hopeless line of the 2nd Company following Park Min-seok, and Park Min-joo, Park Min-seok's biological older sister and a steel-souled soldier played by Lee Su-ji, all keep expectations high for the unchanging performances of the original New Recruit members.
The arrival of new faces who will bring change to the Shinhwa unit is also intriguing. The role of the new battalion commander who is sincere about change and innovation, Byeon Hyuk-jin, is passionately played by Lee Hyun-kyun. Lee Won-jung plays Kim Hyun-wook, a mysterious new recruit who trained with Park Min-seok at the training center. The question of what great whirlwind they will bring to the Shinhwa unit heightens curiosity.
Meanwhile, ENA's new Monday-Tuesday drama New Recruit 4: Sabotage is scheduled to air in the second half of 2026 and be released on KT Genie TV.
