Actors Baek Sung-hyeon and Park Jeong-ah are drawing praise from audiences as they perform together in the musical 'Eyes of Dawn.'
Recently, the musical 'Eyes of Dawn' has been running, with Baek Sung-hyeon and Park Jeong-ah playing the male and female leads, Choi Dae-chi and Yoon Yeo-ok, respectively, on stage.
Adapted from the drama of the same name into a musical, this work reinterprets the drama's narrative in musical form, and it is praised for increasing immersion based on solid acting and vocal ability. In particular, Baek Sung-hyeon held the center of the play with stable acting and delicate emotional expression, and Park Jeong-ah raised the play's tension with her characteristically emotive vocal delivery and emotional acting. Responses continue that the two actors' chemistry is creating synergy and heightening audience focus.
Among audience members who watched the performance, comments such as "the acting and singing blend naturally" and "it feels like watching the drama again on stage" have emerged, and word of mouth is spreading. Amid this interest, it was reported that more than half of the performance tickets for the 22nd have been sold.
After the performance, Park Jeong-ah said the line "must survive" appears several times in the work, adding that she prepared the piece with that resolve, and said, "We trained fiercely for about seven months, and I am grateful and happy that the audience likes it."
The musical "Eyes of Dawn" is gaining attention as an immersive performance that minimizes distance with the audience by using a 360-degree stage structure and large LED production. The production team explained, "From the beginning, dense acting captivates the audience, and the actors freely use the stage to breathe closely with the audience, which is a strength."
"Eyes of Dawn" is based on the drama of the same name that aired in 1991, which recorded a peak viewership rating of 58.4%. When it premiered in 2019, it was nominated for best production at the Korean Musical Awards, recognizing its artistic merit. The performance runs at Converse Stage Arena Yeomyeong in Dongjak District, Seoul, through Apr. 26.
