Hollywood legend and EGOT (Emmy·Grammy·Oscar·Tony) winner Whoopi Goldberg (70) is drawing attention for her blunt and candid talk about her single life and sex life.
On the 18th (local time), according to People, Goldberg expressed on her ABC talk show The View that she is content with her current life, which is not bound by marriage or long-term relationships.
The show featured a discussion based on an essay about "women who, even in happy relationships, long for the freedom of being single." Goldberg actively sympathized and said, I am single. I do hit-and-run only when I need to, a bombshell remark that caused a stir in the studio.
She added, I haven't married anyone and I don't have to feel responsible to anyone, making clear that traditional partnerships don't suit her. In a recent interview, Goldberg also expressed a striking view, saying that not everyone is suited for relationships and that some people are simply optimized for "one-night stands."
The reason Goldberg maintains such an independent life is that she doesn't want the emotional energy drain required for a partner. In a past interview she said, When you are married you constantly have to worry about how the other person feels, but I don't at all, and added jokingly but sincerely, I'm sorry but I don't care how you feel, which drew laughter.
But she does not lead an isolated life. She said, I invest deeply and put effort into my daughter and grandchildren, my son-in-law and my friends, but drew the line, saying that she is not interested in "romantic relationships," which require as much energy as raising a child.
Whoopi Goldberg was married three times to Alvin Martin, David Claessen and Lyle Trachtenberg, but each marriage ended in divorce. Still, she said she maintains friendly relationships with her ex-husbands.
She showed a cool side, saying, They were once people who were my friends, so I still keep in touch. We don't have to sleep together or eat together, but we can respect each other, and added, There isn't a single person I lived with or dated whom I hate.
