"We are never alone." Legendary master Steven Spielberg (79) has raised his voice with conviction about the existence of extraterrestrials, drawing the attention of movie fans around the world.
According to a People report on the 18th (local time), Spielberg openly revealed his philosophy on extraterrestrial life in a keynote interview at the SXSW Film & TV Festival in Austin, Texas, on the 13th.
In the interview, Spielberg said, "I have a very strong suspicion that at this very moment we are not alone on Earth," causing a stir at the venue. As the creator of many classic science fiction films such as E.T., Close Encounters of the Third Kind and War of the Worlds, he added that he has believed in the existence of extraterrestrial life as a matter of "certainty" rather than "possibility" since childhood.
He particularly referenced the incident when former President Barack Obama recently mentioned the existence of extraterrestrials but hedged it as a statistical possibility, saying, "With the universe being so vast, no one would think we are the only intelligent civilization," and did not waver in his conviction.
The reason Spielberg's remarks are attracting more attention is his upcoming new sci-fi film "Disclosure Day." Scheduled to open on June 12, the film is his first full-scale UFO-themed movie in decades since Close Encounters of the Third Kind and is already being awaited as the return of "Spielberg-style" sci-fi.
He joked, "Half of my friends say they have witnessed UFOs or unidentified aerial phenomena (UAP), so I don't know why I, who make films, have received no signals," adding wryly, "If extraterrestrials are listening to this broadcast, please show me something too," which drew laughter.
This new film "Disclosure Day" is based on Spielberg's original idea, with Jurassic Park screenwriter David Koepp taking charge of the script, promising a fantastic collaboration. Actors known for their acting skills in Hollywood, including Emily Blunt, Josh O'Connor, Colin Firth and Colm Feore, will all appear to portray humanity's awe-inspiring moments when confronted with extraterrestrial beings.
With a striking logline asking, "If the truth is proven, will you be afraid?" this film is expected to become the biggest topic in theaters this summer as audiences watch how Spielberg's "strong suspicion" is realized on screen.
