'You Quiz on the Block' actress Yeom Hye-ran talked about her mother and daughter.
On the 18th episode of tvN's 'You Quiz on the Block' (hereafter 'You Quiz'), actress Yeom Hye-ran, who has conquered television, film and the stage, appeared. Although she made a very small appearance in the film 'Memories of Murder' and that was her one media debut, her sudden media debut was through writer Noh Hee-kyung's 'Dear My Friends'. At the time, she played the daughter of Na Moon-hee and Shin Goo, appearing in a tearful mother-daughter relationship with Na Moon-hee, and she also appeared in Kim Eun-sook's 'Goblin' as the wicked aunt desperate to devour Kim Go-eun.
Yeom Hye-ran originally dreamed of becoming a Korean language teacher. Yeom Hye-ran said, "I joined a college theater club, and the older sisters brought me seaweed soup on my birthday, bought me lemon soju. At that time, lemon soju came out again," adding, "I went home after doing theater and my heart raced for several days. So I decided to do that work." After graduation, Yeom Hye-ran joined a troupe that included Song Kang-ho and Kim Yun-seok.
Yeom Hye-ran said, "Song Kang-ho and Kim Yun-seok are in that troupe. My parents were surprised that I was going to act. I told my mother, 'There are people who graduated from Seoul National University and people who came after working as dentists,' and everyone said I was crazy," relaying her mother's reaction.
Yeom Hye-ran said, "My mother came to the theater troupe where I was doing plays. Her knees weren't good, but she came down and cried. She saw her daughter acting in such a small, shabby place," adding, "My mother was very cheerful. She raised three children while running a rice shop. She packed our lunch boxes too; how did she raise us?" she said, noting she thought of her mother when playing the role of Gwang-rye.
Yeom Hye-ran said, "The reason I appeared on 'You Quiz' is that many people see me and want to cry, and I want to tell them I'm not that kind of person. I'm not a mother like Gwang-rye; I'm a daughter like Geum-myeong," and recalled an incident when her mother, trying to boast about her actress daughter, gave her phone number to a neighborhood kid. Yeom Hye-ran laughed, saying, "I asked, 'What if they tell my information?' and my mother said, 'I firmly warned them.'"
Also, Yeom Hye-ran said, "My daughter told me that," adding, "She is comfortable with me but not with others." Yeom Hye-ran, who won the Baeksang Arts Awards supporting actress for 'When Life Gives You Tangerines', had mentioned her mother and daughter. Yeom Hye-ran said, "I wondered if my mother would watch, so I mentioned my daughter and mother for the first time," adding, "My mother is getting older and not feeling well, so she doesn't smile much. I hope she sees a lot of me and smiles a lot."
She said to her mother, "Mom, you are quite a fine woman. You raised us well, you endured hard times well. I'm sorry only harsh words came out. I love you."
Meanwhile, Yeom Hye-ran said the reason her daughter accompanied her to the Baeksang Arts Awards was, "My daughter also came to the Baeksang supporting actress award. She came to see Byeon Woo-seok. She quietly stayed because she was afraid people would find out she was Gwang-rye's daughter," bringing laughter.
