Recently, a video documenting Shim Eun-woo's challenge trying out for a theater audition was uploaded to the "Ma-eum Shim Eun-woo" channel.
In the video that day, Shim Eun-woo explained, I am sitting in front of my laptop right now. Iyoo is that I am going to apply for a theater audition this time, and the title of the work is "Yellow Moon" 'Yellow Moon'. Actually, I performed this work in 2022 with another team. I played Leila at the Theater Theatrecum, and now the National Theater Company is staging "Yellow Moon" and holding an audition to cast that role, so I am going to challenge "Yellow Moon" once again
She said I am coming to the audition with certain expectations, but there are three hurdles. It proceeds as first, second and third rounds, and the first round requires filling out an application, writing a personal statement inside it, recording a designated-line video and sending the link. It seems I really never have to write a personal statement. And not all auditions ask you to write it like this. So it feels really difficult and I don't know what to say. And anyway, because it is a personal statement sent for a production audition, it's still unclear how to connect it to the work and introduce myself well. I don't know where or how to start. So I will focus today and work hard to write it
Afterward, Shim Eun-woo slowly began to write her personal statement. She conveyed the sentiment that standing on the theater stage again increased her longing for stage acting, and that she came to hope that in the new year 2026 she could appear on as many theater stages as possible to solidify her craft as an actor.
A few days later, Shim Eun-woo happily said I submitted the first-round audition personal statement and the prepared free acting video, and I just received a text saying I was selected as a candidate for the second-round live audition. I will prepare well; there are only a few days left, and designated lines are required, free acting is required, choosing a special skill, and there will be an interview. Fighting
But after making it to the second audition I was ultimately eliminated, and Shim Eun-woo said People get disappointed as much as they have expectations. So of course I was disappointed. But I quickly changed my mind and thought maybe a better work will come to me. You can't keep holding onto the sadness and disappointment that something didn't work out. You have to get up quickly and move on to the next thing. But I have this: when something I expect doesn't go well and I'm disappointed, it rather becomes my driving force. A stubbornness arises. So I prepare harder for the next one.
She said Auditions mean someone must fail for someone else to pass. There are probably more people like us who had expectations and then were disappointed. So it is the fate of an actor; instead of being discouraged every time you fail an audition or fail, it might be good to treat it as an opportunity to prepare for the next one. That makes me have greater expectations for my future self.
Turning the camera on again in the park, Shim Eun-woo said I received notice that I failed the second-round audition. Actually, while filming this audition video I had hoped to deliver final acceptance news, but that didn't happen, and I feel regretful. What I realized again is that life does not go according to plan. Life is not as predictable as a drama. For about two days I felt upset and thought I should have done this or that, but I accepted it, and honestly when I left the audition I felt there were some disappointing parts so it might not work out, and I had a premonition that this role might not come to me. Still, I thought Please let me at least get to the third round. If I go to the third round I think I could show more. I thought I could do well, but the premonition was right.
She added, But it's okay. It's okay, and I have to audition more in the future. Until now I haven't had many audition opportunities, so the fact that I get to audition is something I'm grateful for. It's enjoyable. So the many auditions I will face and approach from now on are ones I hope to enjoy greatly, and with the attitude of the audition coming to me, I want to prepare better for the next audition so I can definitely deliver news of acceptance. Meanwhile, Shim Eun-woo was embroiled in school bullying allegations after middle school classmate A accused her in 2021.
