Hollywood's representative sweethearts Sarah Michelle Gellar (48) and Freddie Prinze Jr. (50) revealed their special secret to a long-lasting marriage as they celebrated their 23rd wedding anniversary.
On the 18th (local time), in a cover story interview with People, Sarah Michelle Gellar shared practical advice on how she maintained love with her husband for more than 20 years since their first meeting.
The two first met on the set of the 1997 horror film I Know What You Did Last Summer. At the time, Gellar was a "novice driver" who had just gotten her license, and the road conditions in North Carolina were unfamiliar to her, who was used to the New York subway.
Gellar recalled, "I had to drive an hour every day to get to the gym, and Freddie offered to give me a ride, saying he also had errands to run." She added, "We randomly spent time together when we barely knew each other, and in that car we started talking and getting to know each other," recalling the fresh memories of their first meeting.
When asked about the secret of long-lived couples on the occasion of their 23rd wedding anniversary, an unexpected answer came back. It was the 'number of bathrooms.'
Gellar emphasized with a laugh, "There should be two bathrooms for one bedroom. They don't have to both be inside the master bedroom, but just having an extra bathroom you can use when someone is using one can prevent many trivial arguments."
She also delivered a weighty message, saying, "These days society seems like a 'disposable society' that is used to buying new things rather than repairing them when they break," and "relationships are the same. Instead of always looking for something new, you should take the time to invest effort and try to fix things."
Recently, Gellar suffered the disappointment of the Buffy the Vampire reboot project, which she was producing and starring in, being canceled by Hulu's sudden decision. But she did not lose her positive energy, saying, "This is the best time of my life."
He is currently focusing on promoting the horror comedy film Ready or Not 2: Here I Come, which opens on the 27th. Gellar added, "Professionally I'm where I want to be, and I have a wonderful family. I'm trying to put my smartphone down and enjoy every moment."
