Singer-songwriter An Da-young released a new single for which she took the lead on the overall song production.
An Da-young surprise-released the digital single "To the truth" on various music platforms on the 17th. This single release comes about nine months after her second full-length album "WHERE IS MY FRIEND?" released last June, signaling the start of her music work this year without prior teasing and drawing fans' favorable response.
"To the truth" is a song that starts from the old truth of "I will love people." Built mainly on acoustic sounds and unfolding calmly, An Da-young deeply looked into her inner self and drew a more intense emotional line.
In particular, An Da-young personally handled the lyrics, composition, arrangement, and producing of "To the truth," as well as the overall visual direction, leading the entire project. Critics say she designed sound, image and narrative as one flow, making her musical colors clearer.
The music video released alongside the track was produced based on "Grimshader," the work of Rustan Söderling, an artist and filmmaker active in Amsterdam, and the unstable landscapes captured amid repeated movement mesh with the song's mood to create a distinct tension.
In this way, An Da-young has steadily presented work that organically connects music, visuals and narrative, expanding her distinctive musical world. This single was born as part of that continuity and once again reaffirmed her identity and direction as an artist.
An Da-young first came to attention by winning the gold prize at the 2012 Yoo Jae-ha Music Competition. She was later recognized for her musicianship with the judges' special award at EBS Space Sympathy's "Hello Rookie of the Year" as part of the post-rock band she formed, "In endless reverberation we are." As a solo artist she has solidified her musical position with candid lyrics and powerful songwriting rooted in pop and rock through her first full-length album "ANTIHERO," the EP "Burning Letter," and the second full-length album "WHERE IS MY FRIEND?."
