An advertisement featuring Japan's top actress Ayase Haruka has come under fire for excessive exposure.
On the 16th, an advertisement video featuring Ayase Haruka was released on the official channel of a Japanese spa brand. The ad was originally released last year and was re-released this year as broadcasting resumed.
The problem is that the ad caused considerable controversy when it was released last year. Ayase Haruka participated in the advertisement as the brand's special ambassador and the ad aired from March last year through the summer.
In the opening of the ad, Ayase Haruka stands by a hotel window bathed in morning sunlight. With her hair tied up and her back turned, Ayase Haruka boldly exposes her upper body. The issue was the level of exposure. The upper back is shown up to the waistline, filling the frame. While using upper-body exposure in the opening gave a strong impact, the controversy did not subside.
After the ad was released, netizens expressed questions such as "Why did they have to undress?" Responses such as "It is not a natural direction," "Did it have to be that revealing?" and "It's an advertisement, but the level of exposure is so high that it creates a sense of rejection" were dominant. On the other hand, there were also supportive responses saying "It's just the concept of the ad."
The controversy continued as it was reported by local Japanese media. The ad that had been controversial was reused, prompting renewed debate.
Ayase Haruka debuted in 2001 with the Nippon TV drama 'Detective Boy: Kindaichi' and has since been active, appearing in 'Crying Out Love, in the Center of the World', 'Byakuyakō', 'Hotaru no Hikari', 'Mr. Brain' and 'Today I Will Take the Day Off from Work', among others.
