Kim Nam-gil and Iyoo open the ring of the 'Nightmare' that imprisons villains.
The new SBS drama "Nightmare," which will premiere in 2027 (directed by Lee Dan, written by Kim Gyu-won), is a drama about a vigilante group that imprisons villains whom the law cannot punish in nightmares instead of jails, and their fantastical enactment of justice that crosses the boundary between dream and reality.
First, Kim Nam-gil plays detective Kim Tae-i. Detective Kim Tae-i, who returned to the southern station after a long undercover life, has changed in personality, speech and way of life, but his single-minded obsession with catching villains remains unchanged. With animalistic senses and rugged charm, he joins hands with the vigilante group that designs nightmares to catch villains. Having captivated viewers by freely handling everything from dark atmospheres to thrilling action in series such as "Through the Darkness" and "The Fiery Priest," curiosity grows about Kim Nam-gil's portrayal of Kim Tae-i.
Iyoo plays Jang Gyu-eun, a colleague of Kim Tae-i and a detective in charge of victims at the southern station. Shy and timid Jang Gyu-eun transforms into a completely different person in dreams. She appears in the dreams of villains who do not pay for their crimes with a cruel and decadent face and inflicts horrifying pain. Attention is focused on Iyoo's transformation as Jang Gyu-eun, the mysterious nightmare designer whose reality and dreams differ, as she shows a different-level reversal charm, shifting between a lovable smile and a deadly gaze.
Thus, "Nightmare" will show the process of dangerous detective Kim Tae-i, who is more dangerous than gangsters, and the mysterious nightmare designer Jang Gyu-eun joining forces to make sure villains who cleverly evade legal punishment pay the proper price. Interest grows in the story of Kim Tae-i and Jang Gyu-eun, who will lock those who mock the law and commit all kinds of evil into the prison of "Nightmare" and give them a hell they cannot escape until death.
Particularly, the chemistry between Kim Nam-gil and Iyoo, who will write the story of Kim Tae-i and Jang Gyu-eun's enactment of justice, is also drawing attention. Kim Nam-gil, a representative "reliable and watchable actor" who leads dramas with his own color regardless of genre, and Iyoo, the first Korean actress to win the Emmy for guest actress, whose acting was proven, are attracting interest in the synergy they will produce as colleagues in "Nightmare."
The production team of "Nightmare" said, "Through the unique setting of condemning large criminals who cannot be confined by real prisons in 'Nightmare,' we intend to sound an alarm to those who do not pay the price for their sins," and added, "Please look forward to the acting combination of Kim Nam-gil and Iyoo, who will vividly realize the special material of cooperation between a detective and a nightmare designer."
The new SBS drama "Nightmare," in which Kim Nam-gil and Iyoo's enactment of justice that crosses the boundary between reality and dream will unfold, will premiere in 2027.
