With group BTS's comeback approaching, HYBE has issued a statement regarding the 'red' color used in the performance.
On the 18th, BigHit Music said, "The red in the Gwanghwamun Square performance applies the key color of the 'Arirang' album," and added, "Seoul is also using red at HYBE's request. We ask that people not interpret popular culture events overly through a political lens."
BTS will hold a new release performance at Gwanghwamun Square on the 21st. In line with this, the Seoul city government plans to light red illuminations at major landmarks across Seoul, including Namsan Seoul Tower and Lotte World Tower.
However, some fans pointed out that BTS and ARMY's symbolic color is purple and criticized Seoul for arbitrarily changing the symbolic color and attempting to use the artist as a political tool.
In response, HYBE said the red is only the key color of the 'Arirang' album and asked that people not interpret popular culture events overly through a political lens.
