The group TWS (TWS) is further cementing its presence as a "challenge hit maker."
According to global short-form video platform TikTok on the 17th, short-form videos (including original sound) featuring the mini 4th album title track "OVERDRIVE" by TWS (Shin Yu, Dohun, Youngjae, Hanjin, Jihoon, Gyeongmin) surpassed 2.3 million as of the previous day (16th). This is among the top rankings for songs by K-pop boy groups.
Short-form posts using the "OVERDRIVE" sound have accumulated more than 4.4 billion views in total (as of March 15). Riding this high popularity, the song has firmly held top positions on TikTok's music charts in Korea, the "Top 50" and the "Viral 50."
The "angtal challenge" using the "OVERDRIVE" sound is spreading globally. Greater China top stars Zhao Lusi, Jolin Tsai, Greg Hsu, Chen Zheyuan, and Liu Yuxin, as well as Japan's top artist Yamada Ryosuke, popular musician Lilas (Yoasobi's Ikura), and child actress Nonoka-chan, have joined TWS's "angtal boom."
The craze has spread to the sports world as well. Formula One driver Zhou Guanyu also participated in the challenge, drawing the attention of fans worldwide.
The "angtal boom" ignited on short-form platforms led to long-running chart success. "OVERDRIVE" remains on Melon daily, weekly and monthly charts even five months after the song's release. Following their debut song "The first meeting didn't go as planned," their status as a "chart fixture" shows their staying power.
Meanwhile, TWS will release a new episode of their self-produced variety show "TWS:CLUB" on the team's official YouTube channel today (17th) at 9 p.m. The episode, depicting TWS's dorm life as they mark their second anniversary, teases a lively late-night snack party among members who are all now adults, raising fans' expectations.
