Actor Lance Reddick left our side three years ago already. The news of his death, which came just before the release of the film John Wick 4, still remains a deep sorrow for many fans and colleagues.
On March 17, 2023 (local time), major foreign outlets such as Page Six reported that Lance Reddick, a star of the American drama The Wire and a staunch ally in the John Wick series, was found dead at his California home. The cause of death was reported as natural causes, but the sudden news, coming while he was actively working, shocked many.
What made it particularly heartbreaking was that he had shown affection for his work up until the day before his death. Reddick was carrying out an extensive press tour for John Wick 4, and an appearance on the Kelly Clarkson Show was also scheduled.
One day before his death, instead of attending a film screening held in New York, he shared photos on social media of spending a leisurely time at home with his four dogs. Fans and colleagues mourned, saying they never dreamed that peaceful moment would be his last.
Leading actor Keanu Reeves and director Chad Stahelski, who worked closely with him, immediately issued a joint statement expressing their grief. They said, We are heartbroken to have lost our beloved friend and colleague Lance Reddick. He was an irreplaceable professional and every moment working with him was a joy. We send our love and prayers to his family, and we dedicate this film (John Wick 4) to his beautiful memory, mourning the late actor.
The late actor was a seasoned performer who played Cedric Daniels in the drama The Wire and displayed an overwhelming presence over five seasons. Producer David Simon remembered him as a perfect actor and a devoted friend, and fellow actor Wendell Pierce choked up remembering his musical talents that were as notable as his acting.
In the John Wick series, the concierge Caron of the Continental Hotel, whom he played, was more than a simple supporting role; it was an essential part that held the weight of the universe. As director Stahelski said, he was a pillar without which the film world could not have been built. Although he has passed, his powerful performances and warm camaraderie remain preserved on screen and live on in fans' memories.
