Director Choi Yeon-soo, who directed "Sim Woo-myeon Yeon-ri-ri," expressed unique ambitions for the work.
The new KBS 2TV miniseries Sim Woo-myeon Yeon-ri-ri, set to premiere at 9:50 p.m. on the 26th (directed by Choi Yeon-soo, written by Song Jeong-rim and Wang Hye-ji), is a heartwarming reboot family drama about the bona fide urban family the Seong Tae-hoon household, who suddenly land in the pristine, fierce(?) area of Yeon-ri-ri, struggling to make a comeback to Seoul.
As Sim Woo-myeon Yeon-ri-ri, which will be responsible for Thursday night television, enters the countdown to its first broadcast, director Choi Yeon-soo, who directed the series, revealed behind-the-scenes details of the drama.
Director Choi Yeon-soo said of why he chose the work, "Sim Woo-myeon Yeon-ri-ri is my first project to take charge of as the main director for a full-length production, so I'm excited and it means a lot to me," and added, "I was greatly attracted to the work because it feels like a piece where you can sense the warm 'on-gi' of life, such as family and neighborhood affection and love."
He also said, "To capture the human scent, I focused on the characters' emotions in every process, including the script, music and directing. I hope viewers will take the opportunity to reflect on 'what values (seeds) they will plant and nurture in the life they pursue,' like the drama title Sim Woo-myeon Yeon-ri-ri," conveying the directing points and the message of the work.
Director Choi did not hold back his praise for the actors. He said, "Actor Park Sung-woong, who moves freely between comedy and serious drama and naturally blends into his character, convinced me he could portray the stubbornness and changes of the head of the family, Seong Tae-hoon, naturally. Many people may recall the image from the movie Shinsegae, but I hope viewers feel Park Sung-woong's warmth through this work," he replied with flair. About actor Lee Soo-kyung he said, "She has a unique charm that can add realism and loveliness to the Jo Mi-ryeo character. The chemistry between Tae-hoon and Mi-ryeo was one of the important elements, and the rapport with Park Sung-woong and Lee Soo-kyung was undoubtedly the best," which greatly raised expectations.
Meanwhile, Director Choi also expressed special affection for Lee Seo-Hwan and Nam Kwon-a, who play the village head couple, and for Lee Jinwoo and Choi Gyu-ri, who will present a youthful romance in Yeon-ri-ri. He said, "Actor Lee Seo-Hwan was the only actor who could portray the annoying yet cute Ju-hyeong character in a friendly way, and actor Nam Kwon-a, in the role of the head of the women's association, expressed both gravitas and generosity while naturally using the dialect. I hope the actors' charms will be fully expressed through the drama." He added, "Actors Lee Jinwoo and Choi Gyu-ri perfectly embodied the Seong Ji-cheon and Im Bo-mi characters with gemlike charm. You can look forward to the rival family romance the two actors will show."
As the differentiator of Sim Woo-myeon Yeon-ri-ri, Director Choi mentioned the "human scent." He emphasized, "Unlike highly stimulating works, it captures ordinary daily life, family and worries, and can be a day's healing and comfort." He cited "family," "affection" and "harmless" as keywords representing the work and explained the reason: "Because the main narrative is about family members who lived apart regaining close family ties in Yeon-ri-ri, you cannot leave out 'family.' I also hope viewers will be soaked in Yeon-ri-ri's 'affection' that is 'harmless' as Tae-hoon's family feels the warmth unique to Yeon-ri-ri and gradually change their attitudes and thoughts about life."
Finally, Director Choi Yeon-soo said, "Farming, whether cabbage farming or raising children, closely resembles tending life. Please watch over the life Seong Tae-hoon will cultivate in Yeon-ri-ri," and added, "I hope this work will be remembered as something that became a comfort to someone's life even for a single day. Please give it lots of love," offering a sincere greeting.
