Netflix's 'K-pop Demon Hunters' won the Academy Award for best animated feature.
'K-pop Demon Hunters' was announced as the winner of the best animated feature at the 98th Academy Awards, held at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles, on the morning of the 16th (7 p.m. on the 15th local time).
The nominees for best animated feature included 'Arco', 'Elio', 'K-pop Demon Hunters', 'Little Amélie' and 'Zootopia 2'.
Director Maggie Kang said, "I am grateful to the Academy and to all the fans who have supported us to this moment," adding, "I'm sorry it took so long to tell a story about someone who looks like me. This work is for Korea and Koreans around the world."
'K-pop Demon Hunters' tells the story of the K-pop idol girl group Huntrix protecting the world from evil spirits. With settings that combine Korean cultural sensibilities—bathhouses, traditional medicine clinics and gukbap restaurants—and a K-pop universe, it drew global attention from the moment it was released.
Among them, 'K-pop Demon Hunters' surpassed 500 million global cumulative views after its June release last year, becoming the most-viewed film in Netflix history. Its OST, "Golden," also reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.
'K-pop Demon Hunters' is also nominated for best original song with its OST, 'Golden'.
