HYBE-Geffen Records' global group KATSEYE dominated the stages at Lollapalooza South America held in Argentina and Chile, captivating local fans' eyes and ears.
KATSEYE took the stage at 'Lollapalooza Argentina' held on the 13th (local time) at the Hipódromo de San Isidro in Buenos Aires, Argentina. According to the U.S. business magazine Forbes, about 100,000 people gathered for the performance, creating a spectacle.
When KATSEYE appeared on stage wearing intense red outfits that matched the sunset glow, the venue was filled with massive cheers. From their first song, 'Debut,' the crowd singing in unison began. The audience sang not only the chorus but all the lyrics perfectly, waved KATSEYE's official light sticks without pause, and cheered. Handcrafted placards with members' names and support messages were seen everywhere.
KATSEYE performed a total of 12 songs, including the hit that broke into the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, 'Internet Girl,' 'Gabriela,' and 'Gnarly.' The setlist showcased KATSEYE's wide genre spectrum, from 'Gameboy,' characterized by the members' sweet vocals and easy-listening beats, to 'M.I.A,' a free-spirited vibe that the audience could jump and play along with.
In particular, 'Gabriela' and 'Gnarly' were reworked into dance-break versions, offering even more spectacular choreography and visuals and decorating the concert's climax. On the Latin pop–rhythmed 'Gabriela' stage, voluminous skirts and flamenco-like choreography combined to mesmerize the audience. The experimental hyper-pop track 'Gnarly' featured bold performances highlighted by the members' acrobatic moves.
Sofia, near the end of the performance, said, "The energy you showed today was truly amazing. I hope our music could return even a part of that energy to you," expressing her overwhelming emotions.
The next day (the 14th), KATSEYE moved the stage to Parque O'Higgins in Santiago and heated up Lollapalooza Chile. That venue was also covered by the audience's mass singing. The members said they felt, "I have a feeling today might be the most incredible performance we've done so far," and were amazed by the roar of the crowd.
Even while delivering powerful choreography and stable live vocals, KATSEYE took moments to connect with fans through heart gestures and hand waves. Danielle said, "The atmosphere in Chile today was perfect," adding sincerely, "It means so much to be here and be able to represent my Latin roots and culture." The youngest member, Yoonchae, said, "It feels like a dream. I will never forget today," and added in Spanish, "Te amo," receiving cheers.
KATSEYE is a team formed through the audition project 'The Debut: Dream Academy' and is regarded as a representative success of the 'multi-home, multi-genre' strategy led by HYBE chairman Bang Si-hyuk. After successfully wrapping up the stages in Argentina and Chile, they will conclude their South America festival schedule on the 22nd at the Autódromo de Interlagos in Brazil. In April, they will perform on the stage of Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, the largest music festival in the United States.
