Today (16th) at 8 p.m., on KBS Joy's "Ask Anything" episode 356, former baseball player Hwang Jae-kyun appears.
After ending a 20-year baseball career and retiring, he dreams of becoming a broadcaster, but he visited the advisers because he still cannot let go of his exercise compulsion. Hwang Jae-kyun said, "After retiring I enjoyed a month of eating and partying and the unemployed life, but my body rejected it," noting that his daily routine now consists almost entirely of exercise and that he is working out even more intensely than when he was active.
In response, Lee Soo-keun asked, "These days when baseball players retire don't they do a lot of baseball variety shows and also work as commentators or coaches?" and asked, "Do you want to do baseball-related work, or do you want to do variety shows?" At that moment Hwang Jae-kyun signaled toward Seo Jang-hoon and conveyed that he wanted to become a variety entertainer like him.
Seo Jang-hoon advised, "If you want to do broadcasting properly you have to change your routine," saying, "Rather than exercising, read books to understand people's areas of interest and watch variety shows." When he asked, "Why do you exercise all day? Are you going to return as a player?" Hwang Jae-kyun answered, "I can't let go of my exercise compulsion," and received a scolding from Seo Jang-hoon.
Hearing this, Lee Soo-keun joked to shape his variety persona, "You can get training. If you give me about 6,000 a month I can do it. Let's have sketch classes once every two weeks," drawing laughter. He continued joking, "How about a training camp matchmaking? It's enough time to show the character." Not stopping there, he added a shocking character idea, "Wear yellow lenses and perform as 'jaundice,'" turning the studio into a sea of laughter.
To conclude, the advisers also offered him serious advice. Lee Soo-keun said, "I hope you don't feel impatient. A person who has spent a lifetime in baseball might come off as unappealing if they suddenly try to be funny," and added, "If you approach it naturally, at some point you'll become a beloved entertainer." Seo Jang-hoon also offered words of encouragement, saying, "Rather than forcing something that doesn't work, if you work hard at what you do well, the path you want will open."
