The soundtrack "Golden" from the Netflix film "K-pop Demon Hunters" created a ministerial spectacle at the Academy Awards celebration stage, from pansori to waves of light sticks.
On the 16th at 8 a.m. (local time 7 p.m. on the 15th), the 98th Academy Awards took place at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles. Among them, "K-pop Demon Hunters" (abbreviated as KDH) staged a celebration performance of the OST "Golden."
That day's "Golden" performance opened with two pansori performers. Dancers then appeared wearing traditional hanbok reminiscent of the film's first Huntrix, inviting the Academy into that scene in KDH, the moment the gate opens.
Notably, Lee Jae, Audrey nuna, and Ray Ami, who performed as Huntrix vocalists in KDH, delivered a live rendition of "Golden," sending shivers through the audience. Lee Jae's live handling of the song's famously ultra-high notes drenched the Dolby Theatre in cheers.
Twenty-four dancers holding golden flags that fluttered like the title created a gold wave behind Huntrix, adding visual delight. In the opposite audience, Hollywood stars and filmmakers such as Leonardo DiCaprio waved sparkling light sticks, creating a scene reminiscent of a K-pop concert.
The KDH OST "Golden" was nominated for best original song at that day's Academy Awards. In addition, KDH won the award for best animated feature scene, raising expectations that it could take home two Oscar trophies.
"K-pop Demon Hunters" is a work that tells the story of K-pop idol girl group Huntrix protecting the world from evil spirits. After its release on Netflix in June last year, it surpassed 500 million cumulative global views. That was a record not only for Netflix films but also, including the series record set by Squid Game, the highest on Netflix, surprising many. In addition, "Golden" reached No. 1 on Billboard's main chart, the Hot 100, and eight KDH OST songs including "Golden" swept the upper ranks of the Billboard Hot 100, sparking a phenomenon.<
