Singer Kim Jang Hoon revealed the story of how a promise to donate made at a drinking party led him to finish the Guam marathon.
On the 14th broadcast, the MBN variety show "Sokpul Show Dongchimi" featured a segment titled "Yes-man special, why can't I say no?" in which the cast's various experiences were revealed.
On that broadcast, Kim Jang Hoon said, "I was drinking with a younger acquaintance long ago when I heard about a marathon held in Guam," he began. He said the marathon was a fundraising event run by a Korean school.
The younger acquaintance suggested to Kim Jang Hoon, "Would you like to try running once, hyung?" and after hesitating he agreed when told, "You only have to run 5 km." Kim Jang Hoon said, "I said I'd donate $1 per meter to look cool there," revealing it was a slip of the tongue during the drinking party.
He said, "The drinking atmosphere heated up and there was even talk of 'let's go for 1 billion won'," and "The next day when I sobered up I thought it probably wouldn't work so I called, but they said an article had already come out," he said, drawing laughter.
Kim Jang Hoon, who said he had not properly run since doing the 800-meter run in elementary school, eventually signed up for a gym and focused on marathon training for two months.
But after arriving in Guam the situation became more embarrassing. He said, "On the plane I wondered, 'what am I doing?'" and "When we arrived and were eating pizza, a junior said I shouldn't eat; it turned out I had to run the marathon just two hours later," he said.
Kim Jang Hoon also recalled, "It became an issue so the press cameras followed me," and "I was interviewed while running and my breathing gradually fell apart," recalling the situation.
He said the unique hills in Guam and the squall-like rain made running even more difficult. He said, "I kept running because I worried that if I gave up they'd say I was trying to save money."
After painfully completing the 5 km and reaching the finish line, an unexpected situation occurred. Kim Jang Hoon said, "The photojournalist had gone to the restroom, so the finish scene couldn't be photographed," and "So I had to run it again," which sent the studio into laughter.
He said, "Even now I have trouble refusing such proposals," and "If it's fun and meaningful, I end up doing it," he said. He added, "Still, the Guam marathon was a bit tough," bringing laughs. <
