The King's Warden surpassed 13 million admissions.
On the 15th, The King's Warden (director Jang Hang-jun, provided/distributed by SHOWBOX, produced by Onda Works·BA Entertainment, abbreviated "Wangsa-nam") announced via SHOWBOX's official social media that by around 9 a.m. that day cumulative admissions surpassed 13 million.
To commemorate this, SHOWBOX posted on its official social media, "Thanks to the treasured friends of Wangsa-nam #TheKingsWarden 13 million admissions" and revealed 130 nameplates for audience members. It also emphasized, "In addition to 130 minutes, all 13 million subjects who joined The King's Warden are friends of Wangsa-nam."
The King's Warden is a film set in Cheongnyeongpo in 1457 that tells the story of a village head who volunteered for exile for the village's revival and an exiled young former king. It beautifully depicts the tragic Joseon king Danjong (Park Jihoon) who lost the throne and was killed at a young age and Um Heung-do (Yoo Hai Jin), who risked his life to retrieve his body, and has received praise.
In particular, the film has drawn intense interest inside and outside the film industry as the first "10-million viewer" film in about two years since May 2024's The Crime Master 4. With audience interest in The King's Warden still high, attention is focused on the film's final box office tally.
Among the all-time box office records for Korean films, only 10 films including The King's Warden have surpassed 13 million cumulative admissions. With this, The King's Warden overtook the 2012 film The Thieves, which drew 12,984,701 viewers, and rose to 10th place on the all-time box office rankings.
The next rank is the film Seoul Is Spring, which drew 13,128,547 viewers. Since The King's Warden had already exceeded 13 million cumulative admissions by around 9 a.m. today (the 15th), a Sunday, it is expected to easily surpass that total once today's Sunday audience is added, drawing close attention to developments.
