Former announcer-turned-anchor Kim Ju-ha revealed the domestic violence and gaslighting she experienced in her past marriage, drawing sympathy. Psychiatrist Oh Eun-young also expressed sorrow over the gaslighting she endured.
On the 13th, the YouTube channel "Oh Eun-young's Bucket List" released a video titled "Kim Ju-ha exposes the truth about Oh Eun-young(?) part 1! An even stronger brutally honest friend takedown." In the video, Kim Ju-ha met with her close friend, psychiatrist Oh Eun-young, and candidly talked about her difficult past.
Oh Eun-young recalled the time when Kim Ju-ha was going through a difficult period during her divorce trial and said, "One day Kim Ju-ha contacted me saying, 'There are no cups, no water, nothing at my sister's house,'" adding, "So I packed cups, spoons, and food and went to her home." She continued, "When I went to the house, there really was nothing left. All the household goods had been taken and there wasn't even a cup to drink water from," she recounted.
Oh Eun-young diagnosed Kim Ju-ha's marriage by saying, "It appears she experienced a lot of gaslighting." She explained, "When someone close repeatedly says things like 'Because you are like this, I act like this,' the person can come to accept the situation as normal." In response, Kim Ju-ha recalled her ex-husband's verbal abuse and said, "After taking a bath, I was sometimes told, 'Can't you even look in the mirror?'" which shocked listeners.
Oh Eun-young said, "When someone experiences domestic violence, it's easy to feel you have lost control over yourself," and added, "The process of regaining that control is important. Kim Ju-ha's story of enduring it has likely given strength to those in similar situations."
Kim Ju-ha married a businessman in 2004 and had two children, but she filed for divorce in 2013 citing her ex-husband's infidelity and violence. After division of assets and other matters were settled, the divorce was finalized in 2016. At that time, the ex-husband was found guilty of domestic violence and was sentenced to eight months in prison with a two-year suspended sentence.
Meanwhile, another anecdote Kim Ju-ha revealed on a recent broadcast also drew attention. In later interviews, Kim Ju-ha confessed, "I regret staying in the marriage for the sake of the children." She honestly expressed, "I endured it because I wanted to give the children a complete family, but looking back now, leaving that situation might have been the way to help the children," drawing sympathy. Many are now cheering her on to overcome the pain and move forward confidently.
