'응답하라 하이스쿨' offered both hearty laughter and touching emotion as it depicted a heated sports day with the legendary artist Super Junior and candid confessions from the trainees.
On the 13th (Fri), the fifth episode of Mnet's '응답하라 하이스쿨' aired, showing Ujeong High students SMTR25 and Super Junior—appearing as the neighboring school "Shuju High"—Lee Teuk, Heechul, Shin Dong, Siwon, Ryeowook and Kyuhyun displaying senior-junior chemistry through the sports day.
That day, Super Junior appeared to the intense music "Superman (SUPERMAN)" and immediately tried to seize the initiative, asking, "Who's the boss of this school?" When asked the youngest's birth year, SMTR25 answered, "born in '08," and the response "our youngest was born in '88" sent the set into laughter. Then Super Junior's "'we're all friends" worldview left the trainees flustered, adding to the hilarity from the start. Before the sports day, SMTR25 warmed up with an original "idol calisthenics." As the calisthenics progressed, the trainees grew more powerful, while Super Junior's squeals added a contrasting comedic touch.
When the main sports day began, the competition grew fierce. In the first event, the "Round and round" game, Super Junior planned strategies, grabbed pants legs and used physical comedy without sparing themselves, turning the venue into a sea of laughter. In the final round, Ujeong High's Sadaharu fought hard, but Shuju High ultimately took the first win.
In the following "name-tag dodgeball," the mood reversed. Ujeong High members were cornered by Super Junior's powerful attacks, but the flow flipped thanks to the performance of Ujeong High's youngest line led by Jaewon, producing a dramatic match. Hyunjun, who remained until the end, made a decisive play as Ujeong High claimed the final victory and won a beef set.
In the final event, the "relay obstacle race," absurd missions such as hula hooping, popping balloons and finding candy in flour continued, and after a fierce contest, Ujeong High's Songha crossed the finish line first by a hair, ending the sports day amid a heated atmosphere.
The broadcast also revealed the era-by-era lineup for the fan-inclusive "Ujeong High festival." From the '90s class performing Seo Taiji and Boys' "In the fantasy" to the '00s class performing god's "I love you and remember" and the '10s class performing EXO's "CALL ME BABY," members began festival rehearsals, showing passionate preparations for stages of hit songs that defined each era.
Toward the end of the broadcast, trainee Nicholas drew attention by confessing a long-held career concern. Songha offered deep empathy and comfort to Nicholas, who cautiously voiced a dream of acting, saying, "I support you. I hope everything goes well for all of us," delivering a poignant moment to viewers.
Mnet's '응답하라 하이스쿨,' which combined the senior-junior chemistry and laughter Super Junior and SMTR25 created with honest stories of growth, airs every Friday at 8:20 p.m. on Mnet and Mnet Plus.
