The prosecution requested a prison sentence for Nam Tae-hyun, who was indicted on charges of driving under the influence during his suspended sentence period.
On the 12th afternoon, the Seoul Western District Court, Criminal Division 11, held Nam Tae-hyun's second court hearing on charges including violation of the Road Traffic Act (drunk driving).
That day, the prosecution said his crimes were aggravated by speeding, being caught during the suspended sentence period, and reoffending within two years, and requested 1 year and 6 months in prison and a fine of 1 million won for Nam Tae-hyun.
Nam Tae-hyun's defense attorney said he fully confessed to his crimes and cooperated sincerely with the investigation, and said he had a difficult time, even being hospitalized in a psychiatric ward amid social stigma. He said he is currently working as a company employee and is trying to live as a diligent and ordinary citizen. He asked for one last chance.
Wearing black glasses and with his hair tied back, Nam Tae-hyun, who appeared in court, in his final statement said he lived under pressure in an environment different from a normal life, and in that process packaged immaturity, shortcomings and foolishness as inspiration and depression, adding that although he was lucky enough to gain popularity, honor and financial reward, his inner self was not prepared.
He went on to say he was stupid and foolish, that he knows well that past wrongdoing cannot be tolerated, and that he will change himself so the same thing does not happen again, appealing for leniency.
Meanwhile, Nam Tae-hyun is accused of ramming a center divider on April 27 last year near Dongjak-daero toward Ilsan on the Gangbyeonbuk-ro after attempting to overtake the car ahead. There were no casualties, and at the time Nam Tae-hyun's blood alcohol concentration was reported to be at least 0.08%, the level for license revocation. He also drove at 182 km/h, far exceeding the road's posted maximum speed of 80 km/h.
At the time, Nam Tae-hyun was serving a suspended sentence related to drug use allegations, and he also received a summary order of a 600,000 won fine for drunk driving in 2023.
