IVE member Gaeul of the group IVE showed another twist with a brainy deduction play that even 'legend' Jang Dong-min acknowledged.
On the 8th episode of the Netflix daily variety show Death Game: Bet 10 Million Won (directed by Kwon Dae-hyun, produced by TEO), released on Wednesday the 11th, a 1:1 brainy match unfolded between IVE's Gaeul, who opened a winning streak after defeating lawyer Yang Na-rae, and Jin Yong-jin, a YouTuber, film director and survival program planner.
The game the two played, "the hill of truth," is a deduction game in which players must reach the core of the case first based on limited clues. Players narrow down clues through yes/no questions and use hidden questions available up to five times; the player who first declares the correct answer wins.
Jin Yong-jin, who is skilled at understanding a game's intent as a survival planner, said, "I write a lot of scenarios and I'm confident in storytelling. I'm actually worried I might solve it too quickly and there won't be enough content." By contrast, Gaeul, who developed her deductive skills by reading many detective novels, said, "Deduction is my favorite genre. I really like Crime Scene and usually get most of them right. I have a vivid imagination, so I think I can do well," expressing confidence.
In the three-round "hill of truth," the tense, imaginative deduction duel between Gaeul and Jin Yong-jin was the viewing highlight that increased immersion. Commentator Jang Dong-min emphasized the importance of planned questions, saying, "The key to victory is a question method that eliminates one premise at a time." Gaeul, who then approached the key clue before her opponent, took the first point, and Jang Dong-min praised her as a "prepared player," saying, "Gaeul fires off incisive questions. She's better than me."
Although Jin Yong-jin's counterattacks were formidable, Gaeul, who produced a flash of brilliance until the end, ultimately won episode 8. Caster Park Sang-hyun and commentator Jang Dong-min heaped praise, saying, "Gaeul's legend continues," and "a new star in the survival world has been born," and Jin Yong-jin also acknowledged his defeat, saying, "She has a vivid imagination. I learned a move."
Having achieved two consecutive wins and accumulated prize money of 15 million won, Gaeul said she would continue her winning streak challenge, saying, "It's a dream just to appear on a program in my favorite genre, and I'm happy to have achieved two wins as an idol contestant." DinDin was announced as the next challenger. With the striking line "Why not just call Jang Dong-min?" that introduced DinDin, expectations are rising about what kind of match he will present. Attention is focused on whether Gaeul can continue her winning streak or a new champion will emerge.
